To be fair, the only other player who slides as often as Djokovic is really Monfils, and he's obviously never been reliably injury-free, for different reasons.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
Federer is 14 or 15 years on tour playing and has more than 1000 matches but his movements are different. Nole has the same style like Nadal that is why he can have problems.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
That is unfortunate. The winner of this Major tournament will have a * next to his name.
It will not be a fully recognized GS win since Nadal was not in the draw...

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
@Slice Winner: you're right about monfils being similar to nole in that regard, but my point is - it's not important. style of play is more less irrelevant, it's all about body structure, preparation and listening to your body. I may be wrong, but monfils doesn't strike me as a particularly plan-oriented person.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
This reminds me of the Michael Jackson's O2 London performances. First they announce the Tour and everyone is suspicious because of recent rumors of his being incapable of performing anymore. Then came the hype about his rehearsing and being his old self again. Then as the days drew closer, you just knew there was going to be a surprise announcement about some mysterious "illness" which would warrant the cancellation of the performances. EXCEPT, the mysterious illness turned out to be his death.
I forget which announcer it was, but I remember when Nadal was really young, this announcer made a grandiose statement that when Nadal was 25, he would be done if he kept playing as he did. I wonder if he placed a bet?

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
Federer avoided difficult slam champs most of the decade and didn't play davis cup for more than 5 years.

Poor Lenders, he might need to be put on suicide watch esp if Rafa won't be back for the clay court season.

Now I don't know what's the situation but anyway knees' problems seem to be quite hard to diagnose.

Nadal should have sought out the world's top knee man, Dr. James Andrews. Dr. Andrews had Adrian Peterson fixed and in top form in a very short time.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
Although Rafa's playstyle is not healthy, the main reason for his knee problems is the usage of special tennis shoes which cause tension in places that it shouldn't. He must use them though because of a congenital problem with a bone in his foot or something, else his career would have ended many years ago.

With all the stalling from Joker and Dull there was an extra hour of rest in that 6 hour match.
