Good solid season for Pepe! Another peak he climbed to success. Solid CH level performance.
Great start to the season, then an upset, when he decided to try to get to ATP level in February and March and failed, took a lot of confidence away from him. Also bad performance at GS qualies. He came back with decent results, from April onwards, and then a great end to the season, which secured him his first CH victory, and other very good results!
Now, on to 2013, to reach (and stay at) Top100.
Go Pepe!!!

Massive win for Gastao today. Now in the SF of São Paulo CH, defending last year's points. And winning against good player Thiago Alves, who beat him here last year in the final. Gastao sets himself as solid Top 125 player, must reach the final To show Top 100 material. Go Pepe!

Gastao just lost his SF match in Sao Paulo. Solid through the match, spcially from 2nd set onwards. Great serving, but low 1st serve percentage. Needs backhand from the beggining of the match (I've seen this same problem other times), and needs much higher 1st serve percentage, even if 2nd serve is so good. Could use a bit more variety in his game, but this due to playing so much on clay, I´m sure.
But a pretty solid start to the season, he has it all to reach Top100, if he plays like this and delivers 1st serve at a much higher percentage. He has nothing to defend until the end of March. Now, Bucaramanga in the end of the month, and then probably all ATP250 South American Clay-swing in February.

Gastao is nearing the TOP 100 with his 1st round win in Oeiras against Zeballos. Looks like he's about to break new grounds. Best of luck

Pepe has a decent chance to reach Portugal Open QF today, and to secure a near Top100 place (101st or 102nd). Nearing Wimbledon MD direct acceptance. Playing really well, solid matches on clay, for several weeks now. Great win in straight sets agians in-form Zeballos. I see him doing something decent through out the rest of clay season. Go Pepe!

Well done, Gastão. Solid performance against Istomin, now he reached Portugal Open QF. He is now clearly a Top100 player, might do well at RG this year. Very solid mentally, and big improvement on his backhand. Go Pepe!

It's too late, the cut-off was several weeks ago. He should make it directly into Wimbledon though and the main thing is he's moving in the right direction. |
