Ignatik should had returned here. Izak Van der Merwe should had come. What such a torture to play in Sao Paulo on hard courts at midday in January

Probably. But he is not even in the list of Noumea. Maybe he may write down to play the quallies on one of the ATP tournaments of the first week or as you say straight on the quallies of the Australian Open (however I don't see that a good idea to go there just to play the quallies).

San Pablo as a 125+ gives a good amount of points and the main list is not a tough one. That's the reason why I believe that is not a bad idea to start the year on there.

yeah but Ignatik isn't a millionaire, maybe it's too expensive to fly to South America or New Caledonia and then to Australia

Hi Nathii
Ignatik played in the past in Sao Paulo. Definitely is not a good idea to play in San Pablo and then the quallies at the quallies in Australia. But with his present ranking and pretty much in advance he could have organized a trip to play Noumea and AO quallies. Not a cheap trip to book it now but not impossible to do that in advance (Minsk - Sydney - Minsk and a round trip one from Sydney-Noumea-Sydney).The only problem is the organization of the Challenger tour because under my opinion there shouldn't been a two weeks gap between AO quallies and Tasmania - Adelaide Challengers. In that way most players that did it on the quallies would remain there and then play those Challengers which may guarantee a better entry list

and as you well say I find that is not so reasonable to travel to Australia to just play the AO quallies. It's too expensive for a Challenger level player.

This tournament is a good practice for South American players planning to play quallies or are already in the MD of the AO (amazing heat in Sao Paulo at that time of the year is a key factor).
But at the same time I believe that means a good chance to have other Challenger tournaments on the area for those ones that are not in the MD of the AO and doesn't want to risk a long trip to Australia.
In the past there used to be some Challenger tournaments in the area with pretty good players that did it great on the tour on summer resorts like Mar del Plata, Rio de Janeiro and Punta del Este just to name some before Bucaramanga,

actually, i think quite a few of the South American players will be missing AO quallies, so probably money is a big factor

also, they don't have many tournaments to play in SA. Sao Paulo yes, but then no futures, and then Bucaramanga, Salinas.

I guess yes, we need more quantity in Challengers here in South America for sure, but more than that, we need them to be more organized, like in a pack.
I mean,
* Previous to AO there is no Challenger that helps, but there should be more Futures (guys who play future wont try AO obviously) besides Mexico, there are not Futs until end of Feb.
* Previous to LA clay swing...only Bucaramanga, that's ridiculous.
* Before European clay swing where latin american guys should have better chances, last year there were a few in brazil and Colombia. But, in my opinion, this is the time where it should be more packed (around March and April) during the year. Good results may imply big boosts or at least enough to play ATP 250/500 clay tourneys in Europe.
* For instance, by the end of the year there was an interesting quantity of tourneys in LA. Great, but they would've been way more helpful if some were scheduled before May.

I completely agree with you, Daniel. I was going to write something similar but was short on time.

I've heard rumours many of the guys will be playing futures in Mexico and USA, but especially the last ones are going to have high cuts and tough quallies.

yes, Delbonis, Elias, Joao Souza, Velotti, Andreozzi, Trungelliti, Aguilar, Bagnis, Alejandro Gonzalez, Pedro Sousa will not play AO qualies which they could have played.

Alund, Dutra da Silva, Alves, Schwartzman, Kirche, Hocevar, Clezar, De Paula, Campozano have entered AO qualies.

Mostly, the guys who are going to travel are Brazilians except Souza : maybe they receive a support to go to Ausralia ?

This list has nothing original comparing to all the Challengers in South America.. It is always the same local people.. Have really lots of difficulties to attract other people..
