A friend of mine and me wanted to do a good Rotterdam report in '92 i think it was, for our club magazine. We asked Wayne after a practice session if we could interview him(we had a tape recorder with us) he told us to ask his manager
we had some cool Q's for him, one was Would you like to play the main role in Wayne's world

there was no interview, sadly. i do remember i spoke to Mark Koevermans that year,or was it another year, the clay specialist had booked a "win" over Sampras the week before on his hated carpoe (memphis). Sampras retired a set up and early in the 2nd with injury. i said to Mark : good win over Sampras last week man, king of carpet !
He was pleased with it, "lots of bonus points too" he said.
back then players were awarded bonus points for beating high ranked players

i just googled and the defending champ in 1992 Rotterdam was Omar Camporese (ITALY)!

dont think i ever seen him play

Camporese was an italian who preferred faster courts
in '91 he pushed Becker to 5 sets at the australian, last set was 16-14 if i remeber correctly...a few weeks later he won Rotterdam on carpoe beating Lendl in the final(I was there, I cheered for Camporese)
