Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)
Woodbridge: Aussies too dependent on Hewitt
Australian national men’s coach and former doubles standout Todd Woodbridge tells AAP that Australia's Davis Cup team must stop being overly dependent on 31-year-old Lleyton Hewitt, who is now finding it difficult to play three matches during a tie because of injuries. Hewitt owns the Australian Davis Cup record for most wins with 50. In Australia’s loss to Germany in September, Hewitt and Chris Guccione won their doubles match, but Hewitt lost both of his singles matches.
“Lleyton needs to strategize now in Davis Cup to see what’s the best outcome for the team,” said Woodbridge, who owns the Australian Davis Cup record for most doubles wins with 25. “Playing the three matches is going to be very difficult for him. That workload needs to be shared around some of the younger members of the team. We need to get a new [doubles] partnership formed so you can leave Lleyton and Bernard (Tomic) to fill the singles. Then you’ve got a pretty solid team going.”

I'm sorry, what? What the hell?
Matosevic is the #1 ranked Australian, why is he benched from singles?
Stunned.

Blind Freddie could have seen that before the last two DC matches...
And not relied on Hewitt for all three matches in critical ties

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)
I would have thought play Matosevic & Tomic on day 1. Play Hewitt & Guccione for doubles because they are undefeated! Then Tomic & Hewitt on day three unless Matosevic is in better form then he can play.

I don't know, look at the Australian Open, because Matosevic has not won in these matches, and I would not trust him a place in the Davis Cup at the moment, Ebden more proven. Matosevic broke into the top 50, thanks to a lower tournament series - Challenger.

Matosevic has been to an ATP250 final. Has Ebden?

I would beat Ebden in his current form.... It's not even a decision, Matosevic easily.

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)
Tomic is dropped out
Pat saying he isn't committed to the country, what bullshit. His off-court attitude is horrible but he has played well in Davis Cup.
The only way they can punish Tomic is by controlling Davis Cup selection, so they are using it against him for other disciplinary issues which have nothing to do with Davis Cup. What dickheads.
