I have even heard that word, gaitare.
I don't know many gay people here personally but I do know a few.
And we have some public people who are gays, I wonder if in Romania anyone would openly say they're gay.
“But even so, amid the tornadoed Atlantic of my being, do I myself still for ever centrally disport in mute calm; and while ponderous planets of unwaning woe revolve round me, deep down and deep inland there I still bathe me in eternal mildness of joy.” - Melville, Moby Dick
We have an openly gay member of parliament and a member of parliament after a male to female sex reassignment surgery (currently the only transgender MP in the world I think). Not bad for a former communist country with an immensely powerful church. Too bad they got in on a rising anti-church wave and not on their own merit.
