Zverev beats Luke Bambridge 64 63 to reach a futures FINAL at 15 yrs 6 months. Anyone know how many in the last like 5 years reached a futures final at 15?

Great crop of kids. Elias Ymer, a boy from Sweden (1996) lost to Gregor Zmelja (sorry for poor spelling) in three tight sets in a challenger a few weeks ago, he's also one to watch out for.

He only won one game in the final, which was kind of expected. Regardless of the players he had to face to reach the final, this is a phenomenal result.

Gasquet is the youngest player to have won a futures title at 15y, 10monthes. Zverev had a chance to break his record, but couldn't get it done.

Alex got totally destroyed by Queen Vulture Reynet in final.. those scorelines make me think at a fluke, for the age.
No doubt, and not saying that as a fan, that he is going to be a great player. But this run is too random

Fifth semifinal of the year for Quinzi, he stands a good chance to close the year in Top 500

Honestly, it was sort of a fluke. Not in the sense that he couldn't repeat the result, but in the sense that it might have been different if some of his opponents were older and more experienced. He defeated a 19yr old American who was at best a very very average national junior within his country in the first round. In the second round against the 4 seed he won in a retirement but it was in the third set. Who knows if the injury affected his opponent the entire time or if it just occurred at the end? The third round was an excellent and surprising win against a quality player that shows a lot of promise and mental toughness. But the semifinal was again against a teen, this time only 17 (although Luke Bambridge has shown too be very talented as well for his age).

That being said, this was still a great performance by a kid with exceptional potential.

What bloody fluke as he had chance to become youngest Futures winner ever?? Other players from his generation (beside Jasika) can't win a Futures match and this guy made final.. before any player born in 1996., lets not forget that

And he played more than 3 and a half hours in 1/4

To be fair, none of these matches (except the first round one) were ones he should have won. So really, it would have been a fluke if he had been like 18 or 19, but at 15 there are no easy futures matches.

He's beaten Balleret once before in Qatar, so he's already proven to beat top 500 players before, and Luke Bambridge has a lot of potential. I do agree, that he probably won't repeat this result for a little bit, but he's already proven to be able to get to the second round or further at multiple futures, which is still good for his age and in this era of tennis.

I agree and looking at TennisOnWood's comment, I guess I should clarify. Personally, I wouldn't label it as a fluke or put an asterisks by it or anything like that. His opponents in the 1/8, quarterfinal, and semis were all very skilled payers and are good wins for anyone. I was just noting that he did have to beat two teens who would most likely be less experienced than anyone you would usually find at a futures like this. And also that one of his opponents retired. I doubt his team is going to ignore who he beat and how he beat them when they make judgments on what is best for his development.

I don't think anything should or could take away from his great performance, though.

It wasn't a race. He/She was just giving insight into where Quinzi would likely be ranked that week (before Edmund made his second futures final).

That being said, you still spoke too soon. After a run of 5 straight futures semifinals and a futures final , it looks like Quinzi has already caught back up to Edmund in the rankings. I'm a bit surprised he did it so quickly.
