Should have made your sarcasm a bit clearer sir.
Well, most people who don't support the fastening of the courts also generally disagree with carpet coming back. So keeping that in mind, it was quite hard to detect your sarcasm. |

Carpet doesn't have to been lightning fast. The speed of the surface depends on the thickness of the mat laid on the cement. The thinner the mat, the faster the carpet, but also the more dangerous it is for the players' ankles. So by using slightly thicker mat, the carpet would be fast but not too fast, and safer than an indoor hard court. In the past I've played on slightly slower carpet.
And green clay is a distinctly different surface to both red clay and hard courts. Attacking players can and have always done well on green clay in the past, as well as clay court specialists. The US Open was held on green clay from 1975-1977 and Connors reached the final every year, plus there were numerous good quality tournaments like Forest Hills, Boston and Indianapolis on it that the likes of McEnroe played well at.
One big tournament on green clay would increase surface variety and be a nice change from too many hard court tournaments, especially too many slow hard court events. Green clay is a very common surface in Florida and Southeast USA. The tournament directors at Miami were close to changing surface to it about 10 years back. Green clay is easier on the players' joints than hard courts as well. |

Yeah, that's what I meant. They can add more clay but I don't see the clay surfaces being manipulated across the board. RG was slow this year. |

I said I wouldn't mind having some carpet 250s or even 500, but switching ALL indoor events to carpet would be nuts.

There are 15 indoor ATP tournaments at the moment I think (and there will soon be 14 when the San Jose event relocates to Rio in 2014), and there is already way too much hard court tennis.
I think that the season should be shortened after the US Open and before the WTF, with less tournaments (and just one masters series tournament instead of two), but with all tournaments on indoor carpet. |

All of these indoor tournaments are slow as well with one or two exceptions.

Well I can see where you're coming from.
Interesting idea, but because of how isolated that part of the season is going to be, and with no GS on carpet, I can see many top players missing out on this period through 'injuries'. I think indoor season should be 50/50 carpet/hard and the asian swing should also be indoors. |

yeah carpet doesn't necessarily have to be crazy fast.
last week in Ortisei Challenger (carpet + altitude) benjamin becker won the title but only hit 5-9 aces per match.
