Re: 2012 Match Of The Year
US Open Final. Obviously not because of the quality though.
Realistically though first 2 sets of Berdych vs Nadal at the Australian Open was probably the best 2 sets I saw this whole year. Best 2 sets on clay would also have to be their match in Rome. Not even biased here because Tomas didn't even win both matches or even push either to a final set.

Who did you vulture idol face in the semis? Oh yeah, he wasn't even there because he dropped the soap against Federer for the upteenth time

My idol won the tournament. Suck on that Lenders.
Now accept my bet.

Re: 2012 Match Of The Year
AO semi. Yeah Djokovic-Murray can be a grindfest and error-filled as the USO final testified, but here I thought the point construction by both was fantastic, and the way Andy played especially against a faaaaaaar better version of Novak than in NY was the best slam match he'd played since USO 08.
Rosol-Nadal 2nd. Nadal had no say in the outcome, he defended as he could but Rosol 5th set was possessed. Best individual set of tennis I've seen by anyone in the year. To reel off serves and big winners over and over and over. That man has balls and the Czechs should use him next week if they need a man with the cojones to close out the tie.

Best Slam match of the year for me by far no doubt, excellent stuff from both players, variety, twists and turns - a prime example of Nole's mental strength too. Such a shame Jo ended up losing in front of his home crowd after playing so well

Re: 2012 Match Of The Year
So,the USO final and the AO final are in contention for being both the best match of the year and the worst.

Only on MTF

True especially in that AO match. Tomas was hitting 549786878 winners just to win a point vs Nadal that day. The AO surface is awfully slow. It was a bit painful to watch Tomas's bullets get back again and again but Tomas played his best in the 1st 2 sets so we can't blame him. If the surface was a bit faster, the result could have been different. It was a great match anyway.

Re: 2012 Match Of The Year
Deffo Nole-Tsonga 3rd btw, awesome match. Jo should have done a Lendl on the first mp though, tried to guide a pass down the line instead of drilling the ball at Novak's body

I didn't vote because I slightly preferred Fed vs Delpo at Olympics. But I'd assume the reason for Nole vs Tsonga not getting more votes is because most people on this forum were watching the Fed vs Delpo QF, which was on at the same time. Having the QF of Slams played simultaneously is bound to make people miss out on some awesome tennis
Jo and Novak put on an awesome show - one of the rare matches between top players in this era where you got to see high quality/drama and actual variety ie not every point being a carbon copy of each other, different patterns...

Rosol 5th set
Best set of tennis I've ever seen

Really? Thought his best performance in a slam since that USO 08 SF was against Nadal in Melbourne in 2010. This year against Djokovic he started poorly for a set and a half and played a horrible fourth set, although Nadal retired in that match Murray had hardly any big letups at all.

Re: 2012 Match Of The Year
In terms of quality, I think Djokovic-Murray semis at AO and OG were the best, however Rosol-Nadal was the most legendary and emotional of most of them. Nadal narrowly edging out the first set, Rosol dominating the next two sets, bump during changeover, Nadal winning the fourth set 62 and it was looking like Rosol was ready to throw in the towel only for it becoming too dark to play (or was it rain?) so they decided to close the roof and GOATsol appear to ballbash Nadal out of Wimbledon.
edit:
also, Nadal demanding to replay the point because Rosol started too soon

Re: 2012 Match Of The Year
Per big event, I'd say:
AO - Nadal vs Berdych
FO - Nole vs Tsonga
W - Gulbis vs Berdych
Olympics - Federer vs Del Potro
USO - Ferrer vs Tipsarevic
WTF - Djokovic vs Federer
