Re: Best player never to win Masters title
Of the current active players and excluding those who've won Slams or TMC, Gasquet obviously.
He made 3 MS finals and didn't win any one. That's very poor.
He's like the Murray version of MS1000 (until this year of course when Murray ended his slam drought).

Re: Best player never to win Masters title
could be Blake... hard to believe during his prime that he didn't go on at least one killing spree to a Masters title
Gonzo would be up there too although for some reason i remember him winning one even though he definitely didn't... maybe it was in a dream...
But i'd have to give the award to Todd Martin. he also should have won a slam but he was unlucky in his slam finals

This looks to be a pretty definitive list. Thanks for the info! Funny that Kiefer has close to double Gonzalez' wins over top 10ers but a lot less material success at this level, I suppose Kiefer won some matches over top 10 opposition but was unable to capitalise by going deep in draws.

Yes, defeating a top-tenner in 2R/3R only to lose to a player outside Top-10 in QF/SF was the most common pattern for him.

He won Canada in 1998 or 1999 defeating Kafelnikov in the final.

Re: Best player never to win Masters title
I still think that of the current active crop, it's JMDP.
Not based on the number of Master's finals he reached (one?), but because he's managed to win a GS, which goes above all whatever attempts at Masters tournaments imho.
Now that Ferrer is off the list, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for JMDP to bag one in the upcoming season.

Re: Best player never to win Masters title
DelPo is void because he's a slam champion, only moron can say it's important for a slam champion to have a TMS title.
Of active players, I'd say it's Nishikori or Fish. Of retired players, Gonzo comes to my mind.

Yeah, Fish I agree but Nishikori . He barely just won a freaking 500 tourney . Evne Tipsarevic would be a better choice.
