IMO there were a few players in the past with similar drop-shot skills, but none of them possessed such a powerful serve. Janowicz is absolutely unique with his power-finesse combo, on the mental department as well - between the points he reacts in a super serious manner with eyes of a cool killer only to deliver childishly natural reaction as the match is finished

De Bakker is less powerful than Jerzy but has the same "combo" with a very good hand, and nice abilities at the net also. Too bad he had such a slump... he's slowly coming back, he'll be back at the ATP level next year, believe me

Re: Do you adore Janowicz's dropshots?
I like it and really he gives something new to tennis - you don´t have i think any player on main tour who is drop shotting so often and also you wouldn´t tell normally guy like him would do it - i mean huge guy, big server and powerfull groundstrokes and he is using drop shots in every game i believe - also i don´t understand why players are not using drop shots more often in era full of baseliners - playing deep even far behind baseline and nodoby is using drop shots regularly.... i think he might open eyes many players and droop shots can be used more often - definitely it would be better for shortening points and win them - i mean is is ,,easy,, point to win if your opponent is far behind baseline and you will do at least ,,decent,, drop shot
Also i specially like that drop shot after serve - i mean not everybody can do it, not everybody have such great slice serve and kick serve - but after good serve when other player is totally outwide from court using drop shot to other side off the court is great option
Also i haven´t seen him so much on clay but seems to have great clay resulst - so his drop shots should work great on clay too ? no ball is not even jumping so high on clay after drop shot

Not really, they are getting obvious. But tennis geniuses like SImug and Tipsarevic were godsmacked by them for some reason.

Re: Do you adore Janowicz's dropshots?
Very entertaining to watch especially those dropshot returns, haha. He has definitely pretty nice feel with it, and it works with his booming game which forces his opponents behind the baseline. Will be interesting to see how his match against Ferrer turns out.

Yes, I sleep with a picture of him hitting a dropshot under my pillow.

Re: Do you adore Janowicz's dropshots?
Yeah it shows nice variety but I find the dropshot to be too "risky" to play frequently. Any slight mistake with the shot leads to lost point. But the fact that he played it again after failing one shows stubborness and mental strength. Still it's the same kind of stubborness that cost players too...
I would prefer if he relied mostly on big serve, big forehand as the proven combo on MPs and serving to save BPs. It's safer. The dropshot should only be the icing on the cake. Something he uses only occasionally to mock all the pushing clowns that setup shop way behind the baseline

Not really. 50/50 he actually makes one that's effective.

Re: Do you adore Janowicz's dropshots?
They have been excellent this week. Anybody who saw Janowicz play before, is this a pattern of play he always called upon?
Personally, I think it's great while he's in the zone. Opponents are picking the dropshot but still not being able to counter because the quality is so high. IMO, even if he does go on to be a very strong player in the future, he will not hit drop shots with such a small margin consistently. It simply isn't a sustainable pattern of play in my opinion.

^Indoors, a player can usually cut it finer. You probably wouldn't see such a drop shot hot streak at the Australian Open for example.

Ok so he won 1 point off it and lost 1 off it. (I should have mentioned I started watching the match at 3*-2 first set.)

Yeah that's true, but I still don't see Jerzy replicating this consistency with such a low margin in the future. He may keep up the form today (and I hope he does) but his play is very much dependent on the extent to which he is 'in the zone'. This also shines through in the way he is gaining tempo in rallies with the cross court forehand, he is hitting it very hard without too much spin, this is a shot that will cease to become worth the risk once his level drops a little. I hope Janowicz can become a strong player, but I don't see him getting good results consistently playing like this, the margins are too small for the modern game and he can't serve 80+ % first serve for ever.
