Paris R3: [4] David Ferrer def. [16] Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2 4-6 6-2
This match had a few moments of shining from both players. Ferrer has a great chance here, and I'm curious if he'll take it all the way or fall short.

Too bad for Stan, looked like as good a chance as he's likely to get. Same for Ferrer, of course.

23/26 net points won. Not bad from a defensive baseliner.

Very likely he'll fall short. Or at least stand as such.

Easy put aways = Vulture volleys.
Seriously though, Ferrer could have done with a quicker match tonight. Still, he probably won't get a better chance than this to win a MS. Big match with Tsonga now, H2H is 1-1 with Ferrer winning on clay and Tsonga on grass, both in straights. Conditions would appear to favour Tsonga but he hasn't had much success against fellow top 10 players this year, just the one win over Delpo.

If Ferrer wins this tournament does he have any chance of finishing the year as number 4?

This result will cause great distress to Mark Lenders, which is always a great thing IMO.

I don't even know what to call Ferrer's game anymore. He went from defensive baseliner to grinder to offensive baseliner (though the grinding comes back vs the top guys, still what he's most comfortable with) and now he seems to be turning into an all-court player
