at the moment, he's 185 points ahead of Djokovic for that target but the Aus open is better suited for Djokovic, then well it's not that easy.

Besides, after Melbourne, Fed will also lose many points (Rotterdam-Dubai-Indian wells)

Federer now has the second best run of any player over 30 for year end number one. In 1982 Jimmy Connors lasted until November. If his run lasts at least until October 20th of this year, that leaves him just a month shy of the record and 2 months of year end number one.

yes but Connors was one year younger than Fed : just had reached 30 years old in september 1982.

4:33PM EDT October 16. 2012 - Roger Federer is atop the ATP rankings for the 300th week in his career. We try to put that into context.

• Federer's 300 weeks means he's been No. 1 for nearly six years. His top ranking could be in kindergarten now, doubtlessly going up to the teacher and subtly alluding to how good its handwriting is compared to Andy Murray's.

• The next highest active total is Rafael Nadal at 102 weeks.

• In fact, the 300 are more than every other active player combined (300 to 235). Federer's record streak of consecutive weeks at No. 1 (237, snapped by Nadal in 2008) is also higher than that total.

• The only country with more player weeks at No. 1 than Federer's 300 is the United States (six players, 896 weeks).

• Federer first became No. 1 on Feb. 2, 2004. Ronald Reagan, Ray Charles and Marlon Brando were still alive.

• One record Federer doesn't have: He "only" has five year-end No. 1 rankings. Pete Sampras has one more. Federer could tie that mark if he holds off Novak Djokovic over the next three weeks.

• Every Star Wars movie has been in theaters for a combined 233 weeks. And those things are always in theaters.

• Metallica's Black album was on the Soundscan charts for a record 284 weeks.

• Federer still has 77 fewer weeks at No. 1 than Steffi Graf. (And, for that matter, 32 weeks fewer than Martina Navratilova.)
