Re: Tomic on hardcourt 2012
He only won 8 points in the second set. The first 8 games were good, solid games, pretty straightforward but then he kinda gave up and never won a game after that.

Re: Tomic on hardcourt 2012
He was holding serve fine up until 4-4, got broken, had 0-40 when Mayer was serving for the set and didn't break...then didn't win another game after that.
After the match he talked about the long year and everything affecting him. I wish he would just withdraw from the remaining European tournaments if he isn't going to try and just end the season now... Save himself the embarrassment of more losses like these.

He's withdrawn from Stockholm:

Bernard Tomic has unfortunately withdrawn from If Stockholm Open. #IfSthlmOpen

Re: Tomic on hardcourt 2012
I guess he played a lot on clay this year, but he said at the time it was to get in matches to prepare himself for RG. I think his schedule was ok except for maybe Stuttgart and Gstaad. Not sure that playing the minimum amount of tournaments next year will be a good move, either.
I think my biggest issue is with him admitting to a lack of effort in training/play. He said similar things after losing at Wimbledon. Why is it still a problem now (or to begin with)? He and his team should be making sure he puts in the best effort all the time in practices and matches. Obviously something isn't right and changes need to be made somewhere...
I don't know how many more wake-up calls or reality checks he needs. Other than his first 2 tournaments of the year, Bernard has done nothing of note. Just look at his record against top players and his results in the biggest tournaments: R1 Wimbledon, R2 RG, R1 Olympics, R2 USO, etc... So, I'm skeptical that the offseason will make any difference unless he finally hires a real coach and makes some changes within himself. Things can definitely get worse before they get better (in terms of ranking) with him losing the SF points from Brisbane right off the bat and having to defend R4 at the AO.

Re: Tomic on hardcourt 2012
Playing the min level of tournaments is not going to work, look at his ranking, he's not Roger Federer, apart from the two clay tournys he played after Wimby his schedule was fine, he should play a lot of tournaments. He must getting some poor advice and yep it's going to get worse before it gets better, that's if it does.

Re: Tomic on hardcourt 2012
Let's not forget that this year is the first full ATP schedule tomic has played...last year he was on and off challenger and ATP up untill wimby, then only went a few months before having time off...lesser schedule the better IMO

When your losing first round in a lot of them, no it's not. He's honestly doesn't have the ranking to pick and choose what events he wants to play right now.
To me it's not suprising that his first full year on the tour he has had some struggles, generally happens after a breakthrough, it's not the time to start cutting back, he needs keep building that matchplay.
He is not some special guy who can play only a certain amount of toruny while the others play the usual tour. Maybe if he can get it through his thick skull that he is the same as everybody else then maybe his result will improve.

Re: Tomic on hardcourt 2012
I agree with Aussie fan - if you are progressing through the draw, playing 3 or 4 rounds, like Feddog, of the Djoker, or the ClayhoundNadal, then you are playing a lot of matches, but if you are playing 1 or 2 rounds, then you are not playing a lot of matches. You should be able to cope with a fuller program of tournaments.
