anyway, disgusting that this tall mug with no serve is seen as the future of tennis

its true that they are a year or two ahead of him, but nonetheless, raonic has actually gone up against top players (murray, federer, nadal when very young) and come out looking respectable, winning occasionally

nishikori deservedly won that second career title the other week, playing superb tennis

tomic meanwhile, seems to be going backwards. he gains a little bit of momentum, then puts his feet up, instead of continuing on with his momentum. then he loses the momentum, and goes into a downward spiral

for that reason, i think those two are a better future for tennis than tomic

Burning himself out is completely Tomic's own fault. You don't have to play every week if it's too much (as it is).

2 things I get from this article.

1. Tomic should have had plenty of time to rest losing in the 1st round everywhere.
2. Mayer is mroe talented than Tomic, if Tomic really put 100% effort in the first set.
3. Why should we change the tour because Tomic wants us to out of all people?

i would say one quote that bothers me is, "“It's been defending points, defending stuff. I started feeling the pressure. I wasn't prone to pressure growing up, 16, 17."

That will be the question in his career. Will he ever mature to the point of handling adversity the right way since he hasn't properly faced it. It will be the difference between a top 20 player and a journeyman.

Give the kid a break. This has been his first year defending points and he has clearly felt the pressure. It takes time to get used to these situations and I'm sure he will bounce back next year. He's not perfect but he's nowhere near as bad as people on here make out.

Learn from Wiserer: schedule carefully, be selective, and get plenty of rest throughout the year since there is no off season.

Actually Wiserer played 69 matches this year, while Tomic played 51.
