Klizan broke 1st in the 1st, Cilic broke back right after then broke in game 12 to take the set.

Re: Shanghai R2: [10]Cilic def. Klizan 7-5 6-1
Match was probably much closer than the scoreline says here. But it´s clear that Cilic is a better player than Martin, serve is the biggest difference. One break for Martin is just not enough in a match like this, because Cilic has good weapons to break as well.
Klizan had his chances: BP in the 1st game, 0-30 at 1-1, broke in the 5th game just to lose his serve immediately, and especially that crucial BP at 5-5. In the 2nd set he had a BP in 3rd game and 0-30 in final game. One converted break is just not enough...
Hoping for better luck next time. It´s a bit shame, because 3rd round seems playable.

NID. He's just a bad matchup for Klizan.

Not a good Asian swing for Klizan who has lost a bit of momentum recently.

This is only his second tournament after the title in St. Petersburg.

Klizan's serve is just awful now. Just one service game was easy for Martin and that is too bad. He must really improve it in winter time, coz he wont be able to handle with guys in top 20 next season. They will easily blow him away with this power of serve. And klizan's return is now also very poor I hope, martin will gain some points to go in Top 30 and be seeded on AO.

This. He has to level up in almost everything to be competitive on this level next year. Serve, add more pace and have better 1st serve percentage. Also he has to do on his second serve.
Slice backhand, volleys are next things to improve. I really trust Kucera that he can make a diamond from Klizan.

Re: Shanghai R2: [10]Cilic def. Klizan 7-5 6-1
well, it is not so easy, to improve on this high level of tennis (TOP 30 already high level is) I dont know, every player has some own best, and Klizan is maybe reaching it. His serve is very very weak in comparison of TOP 40 players. Yes, he has a game, but it is really exhausting to play every service rally long. I dont see that Klizan will have so big serve, to compete with TOP 10 guys often... Yes, when Klizan has day, and TOP 20 player doesnt, Martin can win.
But you know, everything is in stars, I m huge fan of Martin, I saw lot of matches from him, but this is my opinion, Hope it will be wrong in a 2 years

Re: Shanghai R2: [10]Cilic def. Klizan 7-5 6-1
I said to be competitive, next year eventually. He is now number 30 provisionally (I am not counting Roddick) but he has to defend it next year. Since he works with Kucera, he has improved every year. I expect from him to work very hard, much harder than Lacko for example, and then he can attack top 20. Time will tell
