Shanghai R1: Klizan def. Bellucci 6-3 6-4
Well, it was tougher than scoreline says.
Klizan was quickly up 5-0 in first set, but he had to save bp´s on every game on serve while he converted both BP opportunities. Had setpoint at 5-1 40*-30, but fell down to 5-3 15*-40 - then he won next four points to clinch first set 6-3.
In second set were plenty of close games, Klizan was up 3-2 w/break, then down 3-4 and serving. Holded, broke and served for the match. At 5*-4 saved BP (obviously) and won 6-3 6-4.
Break point conversion says it all - Klizan 4 from 4 while Belluci 2 from 11.
Cilic or Kubot in second round.

As long as he's beating the likes of Bellucci on hard, he can avoid bandwagon derailment and mug status.
Klizan seems comfortable at ATP level

Trust Bellucci to fail at derailing a bandwagon

Of course I didnt watch the match, but Klizan is going to eventually make me a fan. Ive watched the match against Youzhny and was impressed by his shotmaking and powerful. To the slovaks- Did he give any interviews? Is he a likeable guy?

Rematch of the WCF's, nice stuff from Klizan, tough one for Bellucci though, he was doing well on clay after Wimby, since he's hit the HC's his form has gone to crap, 0-2 in Asia for him, perhaps Europe will be more kind.

He seemed to me a bit arrogant a year ago or so, but the work with Karol Kucera seems to be paying off, because he looks more down to earth lately and is pretty popular in the media after his St Petersburg win. Already arranged an exho with Djokovic (and doubles Klizan/Hrbaty vs Djokovic/Vajda) in Bratislava. Looking forward to it

I didn´t watch the match neither, because streaming from Shanghai begins only tommorrow. You can find something about Klizan here :

He is making a lot of interviews for the local media. He is a funny guy, one could like him more and maybe one less... He is a little bit expressive with his typical sense of humour, which is a bit too simple but I am OK with that. His play on court matters more and it´s an attractive style for me as a fan, so that´s it.
As for this match, Juraj told it all. Shame there wasn´t a stream. Scoreline looks comfortable, but it was all about very few crucial points. Klizan took them all. He converted almost all his small chances while Bellucci typically failed on those critical occasions.
I´m glad that Klizan didn´t choke in that 1st set or/and by serving for 2nd set. But he almost did, it was so close
Anyway, great job Martin. This is definitely a very solid win, which consolidates the things after that Chiudinelli fail. Cilic/Kubot is not unplayable also. Come on!

So, basically he was allways way up in the match, only had trouble closing out the sets. That story tells me it was actually easier than the scoreline says.

Very tough win from Martin. 6 months ago he would have lost this match. Good opportunity in R2 as well.
