Yeah, sorry. He can't even ballbash from the baseline because he's an all-serve bot. Exactly the kind of tennis I don't want to see but credit for him

And even more, think about all the fun if there were 33% of the season slow clay, 33% medium-paced HC, 33% fast grass and indoors. On fast courts, ballbashers would blow pushers off the court, on slow courts, pushers would grind all ballbashers shots, and on medium-paced courts, we'd see neither player type getting an advantage.

tokyo was indeed a nice change. however, i think it was also the balls as they were travelling quite a bit faster than whatever they were using during the us open.
haven't seen anything from shanghai yet. how is that court playing this year?

Fast courts must never come back. Thankfully, the era where net rushing clowns could win big titles is over. Tennis once again takes skill, patience and careful point construction that rewards strategy and consistency rather than pure reflex and mindless all or nothing attacking. If you don't have an attention span of a sugar overdosed teenager with ADD, today's game is absolutely perfect and really separates mindless clowns with no game or strategic thinking from tactical players who can modify their game to succeed on all courts.

2. for fun, find video clips of the slowest courts and the fastest courts. i'd be curious to see how big of a difference there is for some of you.

And Agassi is the only player who has won a slam on four very different surfaces. That was when they hadn't homogenized the surfaces.

Federer has won fast Wimbledon, slow Wimbledon, (relatively) fast AO, slow AO, fast USO and regular RG. |

I've understood RG used to be slower in the 90s, it's the only slam they've speeded up in 00s. And was Wimby anymore in 03 as fast as in 90s?

Wimby 2003 was not as fast as the 90s, but much faster than today.
RG 1999 was about the same as RG 2009. |
