Re: Week 40 : Quito (Entry List)
Massu playing right now against the mexican Reyes-Varela, a pretty mediocre futures level player, so actually a decent shot for him to get his third win of the season! Either way, Gil has a very kind draw looking forward and should reach the final IMO even if Schwank and Souza could be threats.

Souza def. Arevalo 7-6(4) 7-6(4)
Judging from these matches' stats that must be hell of a fast clay. Gil with nine aces, Zivkovic hit many aces on 2nd serve, few breaks (or no breaks)

Re: Week 40 : Quito (Entry List)
Duran def. Alund 6-7(1) 7-6(4) 6-1
That was close to enormous choke from Alund. In the first set he served for it at 5-3, was 40-30 up and then: doublefaulted, won a point, doublefautled, doublefaulted. In the TB he doublefaulted once again being a set point down.
I the second set he led 5-3 again, was 40-15 up and doublefaulted on break point again but ended up winning the set.
Duran had a bp to break in the first game of the decider but didn't take it. He held in the next game but this was the last one he won.
Schwank def. Letcher 6-3 6-2

Quito is on ~3000 m elevation. Air is way thinner than usual, balls fly. Decent server with a good fitness can go very deep here. Judging by that Rufin should be the first favorite to take the title.

Re: Week 40 : Quito (Entry List)
J. Souza-Beretta suspended at 7-5 6(2)-7 4-4
I hope Beretta finds a way to finish it off quickly tomorrow but the brazilian is obviously the big favourite, not just because of his greater experience but also bc he was holding serve more comfortably. Beretta is very talented, another one from the group of '92, and has some fine groundstrokes but looks like serve is quite a liability. I hope he finds the way to prevail in this match, he's had some tough luck at Ch level this year.

Good effort by Duilio, I hope he can take it tomorrow. And yeah, he is quite good from the ground but his serve is poor. At the start of the year he was DFing even more.

Where did you find this quote?

i'm a journalist, i have my sources
he gave interview to ecuadorian press
of course say is one thing and do is another, but schwank is a really good player when he's in shape, surely would have a better career than he has if he wasn't injured so often, so i really hope he can win a title
