Toni: "When facing Roger the idea was always to slow down the points"
He does Rafa no favours. Talked far too much as usual at a press conference in Argentina and also said this gem. It's nothing new - Nadal has said the same thing i.e., when Roger gets into a rhythm and plays very fast then the match can go very quickly. So obviously it suits Nadal for the game to be slower but Toni does Rafa a disservice by focusing on that rather than his nephew's game.
He even said, Roger v Rafa is like a Ferrari facing a BMW - you need to take the Ferrari down a winding road. [All via @BATennis]

This is a poor analogy. The Ferrari would catch on fire & the BMW would have some kind of engine pump failure.

Or most probably you wouldnt figure out how to start new BMW and if you do, you wouldnt know how to change 5643540 gears it has.

Re: Toni: "When facing Roger the idea was always to slow down the points"
Well, Federer is a better tennis player than Nadal and more talented. So naturally Nadal needs a strategy to combat against this. Playing more slowly and grinding away at Roger's weaker groundstroke are both part of the equation.

Son of a bitch..all this time nadal is unbearably slowing down the game, wearing inexplicably tight underwear and indulging in gamesmanship and no one noticed??
Oh wait..

Re: Toni: "When facing Roger the idea was always to slow down the points"
Everyone knows that even Federer knows but he already does not care because he does not like to go down to the level of stupidity of Nadal. All players know that Nadal is a dirty player. No dignity or whatever but he wants to be respected.

I don't think I'll be able to sleep this week after this revelation. It's touched my core.

Re: Toni: "When facing Roger the idea was always to slow down the points"
Did he say slow down the points - as in don't hit the balls fast and flat so the points slow down. Or did he say slow down the games - as in take your time between games walking around.

Nothing even remotely surprising or controversial here.
Kind of obvious where Roddick went wrong.
