greatest achivement imo

would be a lossless year at tennis with the grand slam (or calender grand slam if you want)

steffi lost twice in 88
martina lost once

the only way to one up that would be if they won every slam without losing a set at any slams

the only way to one up that would be if they won every match they played that year without losing a set

and the only way to beat that would be playing and winning all 9 masters and all 4 slams in a single year- and the olympic gold in a olympic year

I believe this use of the word is more common in England, less so in the US/Australia where they will probably use "gender" instead. Anyway, most slams would be a nice record to have. But as long as the current one stands, which I suppose it will for a really long time yet, there is some satisfaction in knowing that the queen of the court is, in fact, Court. Talk about being married to your work!

Agree, would be huge.

Lossless in an Olympic year, with mandatory events would include:

* 4 GS.
* Gold medal.
* 9 M1000.
* 1 WTF.

And maybe:

* 2 or 3 ATP 250.
* 2 or 3 ATP 500.
* Davis Cup.

Again, huge.

The most logical choice would be topping Laver's two CYGS seasons with three:
If someone chooses three CYGS - that player is also guaranteed at least 12 majors, at least 156 weeks at #1 and at least 3 year end #1s, though they're not record breaking by any means, those supplementary numbers would still make that person a candidate for GOAT.

If someone chose, say, individual records at any particular major - like 5 AOs or 8 FOs or 6 USOs - the supplementary achievements that go along with those records aren't very impressive - #1 ranking isn't guaranteed, other majors aren't guaranteed..

The most major titles would be the most significant. Winning a major is what every tennis player aspires to, winning more than anyone else implies greatness and longevity.

After this beating Laver's CYGS would be an awesome achievement. Could we see this in the next thirty years if courts remain homogenized?

Yeah..3 cygs would be awesome. It would require some auxiliary records to cement yourr status as GOAT but the player would be remembered forever.
The weeks at no. 1 don't mean anything unless you win slams (look at wozniacki).

Hey, at least I am fan of a player who doesn't cry like a little girl after a losing in a GS and not a massive pigeon of another top player. Noserer is GOAT? Perhaps in your wet dreams where Nadal doesn't exist and the old man has back to back calendar slams from 2006/2007. Real tennis fans prefer to live in reality, unlike fangirls

You must be living in a dream world mate..
Most tennis fans consider federer to be GOAT. Along with most commentators and experts. Having a losing record against one player indiacates only a bad match up..
Nadal had his chance to overtake federer but djokovic and injury spoiled it for him..
Federer has come the closest to having calendar slams (losing in the finals of RG to the clay GOAT) after laver.
And seriously, showing emotion after losing an important match does not make anyone a crybaby..

how is that in doubt? you have no basis to go off of besides things you have not seen. only evidence we have is Nadal's long absence and some words from him which have been reassuring not otherwise

he'll win another Roland Garros, mark my words, I am surprised by your general pessimism towards him lately groove.

Any of Fed's untouchable records. 17 slams, 23 straight slam semis, most weeks at #1, 18/19 slam finals, 4 or more slams titles at 3 different slams, etc. Take your pick.

There is no guarantee three CYGSs would yield even one week as #1. Four slams give 8000 points. Nobody under the current ranking system has ever been #1 with as little as 8000 points. Currently Fed has more than 11000, and that with winning only one slam.

If we assume that the same opponent is in all the finals of the majors, that'll yield 4800 points. That means that same opponent will need to win four Masters 1000 a year to overtake the hypothetical CYGS winner. Winning those Masters shields will be a tough ask if the CYGS winner is in the draw plus all the other players who will be splitting the finite number of points available sans the majors. Just look at history and see how many players got to #1 just by winning one or two majors a season; winning three majors virtually guarantees the #1 ranking. The only "realistic" way that the CYGS player doesn't obtain the #1 ranking is if everyone else conspired to have the hypothetical runner up vulture all the points left and the CYGS winner sits out everything else.
