I will be very sad if they really do not compete. I hate these boycotts; it alienate many others. JMO.

It's interesting how the article mentions one of my previous points about reducing the rank of GSs in terms of points. The ATP can certainly do that.

So true. If any Slam deserves a boycott it's that one for sure.

And I hope the players are also planning to form a proper union as well. Even though the ATP is supposed to be a union we all know that's not the case. I guess being an individual sport makes it harder but really the players should put their egos aside and make a true union happen. After all an bigger share of the revenue that's fairly distributed will only benefit everyone anyway.

I have a hard time feeling for them. The money they get is outrageous and for the players that don't make as much, start winning more.

It's the top guys that bring the interest to the sport which brings the crowds/sponsors/tv deals which brings the money so if lower guys are moaning about not making enough I couldn't really care. Get up the rankings, win some things and you'll get what you deserve.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned...

Player agitation sees prizemoney hike for Australian Open

BY: COURTNEY WALSH From: The Australian October 02, 2012

AUSTRALIAN Open officials have responded to threats of a boycott of next year's event by raising prizemoney to $30 million.

The $4 million hike comes after an escalation of tension about priizemoney at last month's US Open.

The ATP Players Council, headed by Roger Federer, raised concerns about funding levels for players ranked on the fringe of the top 100 and below.

Local officials, headed by Tennis Australia chief executive Steve Wood and Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley, networked with players and representatives of the other three majors to work on a solution.

Wood said the increase, which makes the Australian Open the richest ever tennis tournament, will hurt its business interests elsewhere. Funding will be stripped from areas of Tennis Australia.

Don't feel bad Tennis Australia are very rich and the facts are the Aus Open gives the highest percentage of revenue which the players generate back to them, but it's still very low relatively speaking.

That makes it sound a little bit better, but it still shows low classiness from the players...
