Default Re: Endless Djokovic-Nadal debates. Who is the better volleyer?

neither, they're both fairly poor

it's not their fault of course, volleying is a neglected skill in these homogenised courts

young federer was an excellent volleyer, easily the equal of sampras and not far off rafter. if he he had continued serving and volleying, there's no doubt he'd be up there with edberg and mcenroe. fortunately he had the foresight to adapt his game

if i had to pick between the two, then i would say nadal. he seems to have developed a workable volley, though he'll never be comfortable at the net

i've said my thoughts on djokovic's net play in other threads. it's the one thing that's preventing him from being an excellent all round player

federer, tsonga and murray are the best volleyers in today's top 10

Default Will Djokovic surpass Nadal's slams?

With Olderer retiring soon, who will end up with more slams?

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned...

He made no headway this year with him winning Aus Open and Nadal the French. If Nadal wins 1 or 2 more slams - not out of the question given his dominance at the French - then don't think Djokovic has any chance. If it stays 11 then maybe a chance if Murray and Djokovic share the spoils going forward - 6 slams over 3-4 years could happen - would need more multi-slam years though - only one in his career so far.

Depends on Nadals health.

If he's out for a long stretch next couple years...yes.
Otherwise no. Murray has no chance not even a slight one. Nole has a shot but like I said depends on Nadals health.

What a way to start a thread "with olderer retiring soon"...

Olderer is retiring after Nadal.

Nadal won more than half of his slams in weak periods (05-07 + the laughably weak 2010) so Djokovic is actually greater

I think this has been asked before. Anyway the answer is a big NO. There are 3 reasons why he will never catch Nadal. Firstly Djokovic 2.0 is gone for good. Secondly Nadal will add more majors to his CV. Thirdly the highlander has finally arrived.

Oopps..

I don't think so even though Nole might win a few more.

I'm not sure Rafa will win anymore slams either with his injury issues.

Depends on the condition of Nadal's teeth.
