russia's selection is not as bad for the simple reason that andrey and evgeny are both in form and clay is the specialty for both.

this selection is just brainless because becker and petzschner are both useless on clay

All those guys can possibly defeat Dutra Da Silva (who is actually the second singles player that Brasil chose), but considering that the Brasilian double Melo-Soares is good, Russians will need one player to defeat Bellucci, and I can only see Andreev as able of that. Considering that he improved in recent weeks, I think it's possible.
They picked Dutra Da Silva?! Interesting...

misty, who else could they have picked? Only player missing for me is Kas who should have replaced Becker for the doubles action. Aside from that with Haas and Kohli out Stebe and Mayer have to be 1 and 2.

Kas was clearly the weak link in past DC doubles matches, so Kühnen felt that some change was needed.
In the past Petzschner/Kohlschreiber looked like a good DC doubles, but we won't have to worry about that one.

in my eyes, the problem is quite the same :

- Germany doesn't have Kohli and Haas

- Russia doesn't have Youzhny and Davydenko

for various reasons, including certainly disagreements with the federation and team captain.

Then they have to choose other players and Stebe, Petzschner and Becker (who can play on clay) are not that different from Bogo, Donskoy and Kuznetsov in my eyes.

i mean, differences should have been put aside and kohli should have been chosen, that was my point. If haas didnt want to play then i cant blame kuhnen for that but it was his decision not to pick kohli to play which is idiotic

kas and kohli are good doubles pairing so i would have thought they would have been paired together

i would have thought the line up would have looked like this:

kohlschreiber
kas
petzschner
mayer

Haas posted this on facebook:

Which with google translate would be:
Hi guys, you wonder sure why I canceled the Davis Cup. It is so that I have in the past often subordinated family matters in my career and also the Davis Cup. Now I'm a father and I have to my family a certain responsibility. I live in LA and a trip to Germany would mean that I see my family for a long time can not, just because it then again goes to China. This I just do not expect my family and hope for your understanding. I would just like to have been there in Hamburg and wish Patrik and the guys good luck!

Germany would have had a lot of fresh doubles options. I don't get why he thinks Becker is a good doubles player, especially on clay. Brown would have been a nice choice. He even won a clay 250 this year and reached another final.

19 Petzschner, Philipp (GER)
40 Kas, Christopher (GER)
52 Brown, Dustin (GER)
68 Kohlmann, Michael (GER)
70 Emmrich, Martin (GER)
76 Waske, Alexander (GER)
78 Moser, Frank (GER)
89 Marx, Philipp (GER)

Waske would have been the best choice imo

has to be said that the german team spirit is not that bad apart from kohli
he separates the team because he has shown the attitude of believing he is better than the other german players, at least that was the impression for everyone I guess
I dont think that any of the other players has any problems with kühnen

Would like to see Petz and Dreddy in the doubles.

German DC shenanigans are hilarious this year though.

I can't help it but wonder if Tommy is still angry about German committee not nominating him for the Olympics
I remember some german article, Tommy saying if he was younger(or hadn't been there before) he would sue them for not being able to play at the Olympics.

Why does Andrey Kuznetsov play in Todi (he played yesterday) while he's officially in the Davis cup team for Russia in Brasil this week ?
