McDonald and Halebian also lost. Only two wins on day 1, both wildcards (Adams & Kozlov). Halebian is such a headscratcher, can't get a set from a 16 year old after almost winning his USO qualifying round 1 against ATP World No.240 .
Great experience for Adams before heading off to college:

Harrison Adams, who has hit with both James Blake and Sam Querrey since arriving in New York, picked up a win in his junior slam debut, defeating Luke Bambridge of Great Britain 6-4, 6-3. Link

Schneider went down 46 61 16, what a weird match (13 total breaks, wta-esque).

With Michael's win, victories so far are from two wildcards + 1 qualifier . Oh well, at least the girls rock .

Deiton lost 3&3 to Peliwo, no surprise there. Jared a set up against Pollanen.

Even Krueger is struggling, losing his first set 6-4 and just lost his break advantage in the 2nd. Even if Krueger and/or Donaldson (who just split sets and is down an early break in the third) pull through, it's been a surprisingly poor performance by all of our older guys.

Indeed, very disappointing. Is the pressure of home crowd getting to everyone? I can't believe Mitch is struggling this much.

And Mitch failed to serve out the 2nd set; well, he was never mentally strong anyway.

Jared Donaldson (still 15 years old) loses to Herko Pollanen (18 yrs) 6-1 3-6 4-6. Certainly a good attempt against a tough opponent. But unfortunately that's way overshadowed today.

Good effort from him. If he wasn't broken to start the 3rd set, it would have likely gone to a tiebreak. He was in Pollanen's service game numerous times in the last set, getting to deuce often but just couldn't get the job done.

I need a break, hopefully Mitch can get the win. Will be back for the doubles and they better not turn off the camera or move them to another court.

Re: 1994-1996 : Rubin, Kwiatkowski, Halebian, Papa, Corinteli, McDonald, Donaldson,
So out of 15 players, 3 wildcards + 1 qualifier (including two 14 y.o.) advance to the next round . The only good thing about it is that they are the underdogs and probably won't feel too much pressure. Good luck to Adams, Redlicki, Kozlov, and Mmoh tomorrow.
As for Krueger, he's got to be really disappointed (especially since this being his last junior event).
