There is really no reason for him to worry about coming back before next year. Wouldn't do well at the WTF anyway, never has even in his best years. The only possible thing is if Spain does make the Davis Cup finals, otherwise no reason to play.

Yup, he can have another cupcake final due to his mates' efforts. It will be typical and he will then be lauded as a martyr .

Re: Rafael Nadal Injury/Health Update Thread : Spanish Press: Nadal not in DC etc
I'm afraid that the frequent injections meant to heal the tendon have actually made the tendon weaker and susceptible to tears. I think Nadal needs better medical care than he has received so far. It is a bad sign that the tendon is torn yet it took the doctors many weeks to come to that realization. When the stakes are this high relying on quacks is stupid.

There is no magic pill. Those injections were what allowed him to play and win slams despite his poor knees. If it weren't for those injections maybe his career or slam titles would've stopped in 2009 after he pulled out of wimbledon.
But there is a limit. Medical treatments can only do so much. nadal has definitley taken advantage of all the state of the art treatments there are out there.

That's certainly what one would expect at his level and likely the case he get's the best treatment available. But it can only do so much against a failing body.

Tipsy was great at last year's WTF, not sure what you are complaining about

I'd love to see Nadal enter WTF, if you know what I mean.

You've got a point here.
The ONLY thing that may/might allow for tendon- and related cartiledge-like problems to heal is REST.
All of other 'treatments' is quackery.
I can only hope Rafa and/or his team has finally acknowledged this by now (though I won't be sure, knowing how much athletes are indeed susceptible to believing in all kinds of 'wonder medicine') and that he indeed allows himself all the rest to find himself a genuine recovery of his knees.

If Spain gets to the final in Davis Cup i can see Nadal coming back and play but i don`t think this year he will do both WTF and Davis Cup.

The final would be either indoor HC in Argentina or indoor HC in the Czech Republic. He's not coming back to play best of 5 sets on that. Totally not worth it. It's not clay in Spain.
Don't think he'll play till the Abu Dhabi exo and then Doha 2013. Interview with his best friend today suggested the same - that Nadal is in good spirits, enjoying time with friends and family, playing golf tournaments and knows that this is something he has to do for his longterm career - wants to come back without pain and finally take the time out needed. So far he's always taken temporary measures but not this time.
Think this will overall be a good move. 6 months off tour in total; complete rest and recovery of the tendons; time to work on conditioning; mentally recharge batteries and plan the final part of his career. Yes he'll obviously be rusty when he gets back but there's nothing to be gained from coming back for Asia or the WTF. Sad to have him missing for so long and to have Tipsy in the WTF most likely but if it means having him on the tour for longer overall then it's worth it.
