I don't think the WTF is really a good place to retire for a top player.. as it's not a straight elimination tournament it sort of messes up the emotion of it a bit I think.

Say it as you will, but it's a big part of the reason he's still winning. A big ego is part of the job description of the champions.

I have no problem with Fed staying at top 8 till retiring at 38 though.

Tsonga: Paris Masters seems logic. Or WTF if he has a real title chance.

Ferrer: Valencia Indoors seems logic. Or WTF or Paris Masters if he had a real title chance, i.e. quite unlikely.

Federer: Wimbledon would be nice, on the other hand I think he'd play USO also. So maybe he'd continue to Basel, or WTF if he aas a real title chance.

Djokovic: I guess he'll finish in a slam, or in WTF if he has a real title chance. USO as the season's last slam would be logic, on the other hand AO would be great, he's done so well there.

Nalbandian: USO as the season's last slam would be logic, but maybe he'd continue to the next Buenos Aires tournament.

If he is outside the top 8, he will probably be at a level where he makes 2 or 3 UE for each winner consistently... kind of like Blake! It'd be like watching your beloved grandfather with Alzheimer's. I'd watch his replays.

All that supposing his ranking is not low because he is skipping tournaments, and that's unlikely:

And then as excited as I am about what’s to come in the next five years, say, of tennis, I’m just as excited about what’s to come afterward. I think the mix is really a good one for me right now. I’m not worried to stop, but I don’t want to stop. I really want to push forward and play more, keep on playing, not play more than the 21 tournaments that I’m already doing, just maintaining it and enjoying it, doing the utmost I can. It’s a really good time in my life right now.
Source.
