I have to ask, is this the end of the line for Florent? Is he retiring at the end of the year? I knew that possibility was thrown out there. It's just not working out for him, he's not winning matches, and with the points he has to defend through the end of the year, without big results he isn't going to finish in the top 150.

He's in semi in Noumea against Menendez so everything to do the final. He got an infiltration in december on his hip so he missed the Interclub finals but now he's fit and motivated to come back in top 100. He says there is points to win in Noumea and wants them. He'll play Ao qualies next week.

Florent had a very positive start to the season, but things have gone south recently with some very ugly losses where he's barely won games. But he has very little to defend these next months so if he can find form, he can return to the top 100 quickly. Hopefully these recent losses aren't a result of an injury and that he finds his form again. I guess his next event is Miami qualifying as that's the next event he's on the entry list of. Will he be playing another event before then?

Florent won one match in Miami qualifying over Thomas Schoorel 6-3 6-2, before losing in the final qualifying round to Simone Bolelli 6-7 4-6. Unfortunately he got a tough draw and couldn't come through it but he played two competitive matches and hopefully will feel good about his game for his next tournament at the Le Gosier challenger next week. Florent needs some wins to give himself a chance to make the French Open direct, or at least put himself in position to earn a WC. Hopefully he has a good event next week in Guadeloupe.

Florent plays defending champion and #1 seed Olli Rochus in the first round of Le Gosier. Not lucky with the draw, but if Florent plays well, he can get the victory here. They've played once at the ATP level and Florent won the match 6-3 6-3 in Casablanca 2009, so hopefully the result is similar in this match. They play today, the third match on center court. Hopefully Florent can come through with a win!

Florent lost 7-6(2) 4-6 2-6 to Rochus. Good performance against a high-level player but he lost serve too often to win the match.

His next scheduled event is Casablanca qualifying next weekend. It would be nice to see him get a WC into the event but that is not likely. Hopefully he qualifies into the event and has a great run in the MD.

Default Re: Florent Serra

There was just an article on L'equipe yesterday about Serra waiting around in USO for the LL spot. And today, he got what he's waiting for, a spot in the main draw.

Serra, Wait & See
