Kristijan Mesaros cheering thread
Kristijan is a very promising Croatian player, still relatively young (22 until July 2011). He has made steady progress during his short career. His year-end rankings are:
+ 2006 (18 y.o.): #1098
+ 2007 (19 y.o.): #809
+ 2008 (20 y.o.): #580
+ 2009 (21 y.o.): #535
His progress stalled in 2009 because he ended his year in August (school? injury?). He then played only one tournament the whole first half of 2010. As a result he almost fell out of the top 900 by July.
Whatever the reason, the break did him a world of good. Kristijan has been on fire since resuming a full schedule, and 2010 has now become his breakthrough year at the Futures level. Since July, he has reached seven finals and won six of them. He's now up to a career-high ranking of #371, and is the #8 ranked Croat. Most recently, he won this week's Futures tournament in Iran, losing only 22 games in five matches, including against the #1, #2 and #7 seeds. With that result, he'll move up to a new career-high ranking of around #315.
Given his recent good form, he could easily move into the top 300, maybe even the top 250, by the end of the year. He plays again in Iran next week and in Sudan (?!) the week after that, and he's not defending any points either week.
