I read somewhere that NBA gives like 45% back to players.

I wonder if everybody speaks of % of the same thing. It's easy to say bullshit on such topics : is it % of the profit ? of the total revenue ? after depreciation of the capital or not ? etc ...

not true, you don't get to top 200 and stay there by losing 1R matches, sorry but that's just BS. (btw, read all of your posts but didn't want to quote you, so I'm trying to respond to everything you said). there are many things you said that really bothers me in a way. These guys try really hard. No, not everyone can be Nole, Roger or Nadal. Do you even understand what it takes to travel all the time, live in some cheap hotels, not being able to cover your basic bills etc. It has nothing to do with socialism, if we go by your logic it would literally kill tennis.
You have pretty much everything twisted. I strongly believe that lower ranked players should get more money. it's what they do, and they contribute to sport. Top guys are so rich, they make more money from their sponsors, prize money is almost irrelevant to them. I don't even think that Federer, Djokovic and Nadal know how much money they have or where it's even coming from (yeah, being sarcastic a bit, but I'm sure you can see my point).
I'm wondering what you do for living, and if you are the best in your field (let's say best 1000 in the world)

Well, that article was comparing tennis and NBA so I suppose the percentage was extracted of the same thing.

I would hope so but you can't be sure with journalists in economic matters

Re: Players threaten to boycott the AO!
Stupid. Like they'd drop the Australian Open for a super tournament in Dubai. And i thought the WTA was for stupid executive decisions.
If anyone should be getting more money, it's the qualifiers and the players who play to live. Not the players who "can't afford the Ferrari's" which they don't even deserve.

Re: Players threaten to boycott the AO!
I wonder if this has something to do with that article. Interesting decision to include Krajcek means Nadal's machinations behind the scenes never really stopped. He just lost to Federer (yet again).

ATP ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF COMPETITION COMMITTEE
NEW YORK — The ATP has announced the inaugural members of its new Competition Committee, created to evaluate and recommend changes in the way the professional game is presented and played at ATP World Tour and ATP Challenger Tour events.
The ATP Competition Committee will serve purely in an advisory capacity, with any recommended changes or innovations continuing to require approval by the ATP Board of Directors. The six-person committee consists of two representatives designated by the ATP Tournament Council, two representatives designated by the ATP Player Council, and one at-large member and a committee chairman, both selected by the ATP Executive Chairman & President.
“I have enormous respect for the history and tradition of our game,” said ATP Executive Chairman and President Brad Drewett. “At the same time, it’s important that we continue to explore new and creative ideas for enhancing the competition and presentation of the sport. We have a great group involved and I look forward to seeing what they come up with.”
Sergio Palmieri and Graham Pearce have been selected as the two Tournament Council-designated representatives. Palmieri has served as Tournament Director at the BNL Internazionali d’Italia, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event, since 2003. Pearce, a former Tournament Director of the Heineken Open in Auckland, an ATP World Tour 250 event, also served on the ATP Board of Directors from 2000 through 2010.
Lorne Abony and Weller Evans have been selected as the two Player Council-designated representatives. Abony is CEO and Chairman of Mood Media Corporation and has been an active member of the global tennis community, helping to raise in excess of $1 million to support worthy global causes through his charity Pro-Am events with the help of many past and present ATP players. Evans worked for the ATP for 25 years, the last 15 as Executive Vice President of Player Services, before retiring in 2006.
Richard Krajicek, the 1996 Wimbledon champion, has been designated as the at-large representative by Drewett. Krajicek reached a career-high South African Airways ATP Ranking of No.4 in 1999. The Dutchman is currently the Tournament Director of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, an ATP World Tour 500 event.
Gayle David Bradshaw, ATP Executive Vice President of Rules & Competition, was appointed committee chairman by Drewett.

Re: Players threaten to boycott the AO!
I hope AO will be, it will be dissaster if it won´t, because some idiots won´t give more money to players that make those proffits for them. Super-tournament in Dubai? what joke it is ? already last Dubai had strong field and now what they will make bigger draw and still give 500 points to winner? that´s not making sense....

Don't forget, it's the ATP that awards points for all the tournaments, so if they decide to give Dubai GS rank, then they will. Obviously it will probably never happen but they do have the power to do it.

ATP has nothing to do with grand slam tournaments.

Well if what I'm suggesting is socialism to you then up the workers.

Nobody forces them to keep playing if they can't make ends meet, they are not slaves. They can always find the other job just like normal people in normal life do. Is that an easy way? Of course not but -- newsflash! -- life is not easy for billions on this planet. The complaints of Stakhovsky et al. ("Oh, poor me has to get up at 7 am to get practice court") are just laughable in grand scheme of things.

No they are not slaves. They are people following their passion, doing what they love, trying to make their dreams come true. So they should be forced to quit unless they happen to be top 70 material, or are lucky to have another outside source of income to cover their shortfall? Ridiculous. Oh, and billions are starving? Yes they are. That's a wonderfully irrelevant argument that can be applied to anything.

. It's about the points awarded from Grand Slams. Read my post before quoting it.

Brilliant, just brilliant. Is it Francois Hollande posting? Lets take money from the rich and give them to the the poor. Cos it's not like Fed and Nole actually earned their millions through hard work by winning matches.

Re: Players threaten to boycott the AO!
The only good thing in Dubai Super Tournament would be that it'd be ATP-only, i.e. no screaming. Otherwise it'd be a terrible idea and no screaming would be the only good thing in ATP-only slam.
