Kids are already in school here. It is raining a peaceful “woman rain” here. (WG will flay the Navajos for being sexist) and so it seems like fall today. Warm temps will return next week, but I think everyone is looking forward to the fall if not the winter. Fall is really the most beautiful time of the year for us. Deep, deep blue sky and golden leaves. Warm days and cool nights.

Back to work, part II. Second attempt, on Monday. Hope it works this time.

I don't consider myself an optimist but compared to Maria, I am, I think. Such a dark thinker she is.
In each situation, I like to imagine the worst possible scenario (which a real optimist doesn't do, I'm told) but this is just to know where rock bottom is. Once I've done that, I'll be looking upwards.
July gave us rather bad weather (chilly, grey, wet) but August is perfect so far. It's a perfect bonus for me because while I'm recovering at home, I can enjoy my garden with a good book. (I'm currrently reading The Game of Thrones).
I'm hoping the same (not a lot of snow)
Belgium's golden generation

Could Belgium, the butt of so many jokes from the rest of Europe, be about to become famous for more than waffles, nice chocolates and Hercule Poirot?

This says more about the ignorance behind such clichés than anything else.
And what's worse; they forgot to mention "beer" in their dumb clichés.

I'll say it again: let's hope they finally are going to be able to function well as a national team as well.

Oh, waffles, chocolates and Hercule Poirot are great clichés IMO!
And I guess it's VERY beautiful in your garden still. Do you also have trees in your garden?

Ours go back the day after Labour Day. Fall there sounds really nice.

We had incredible heat in July and broke all kinds of records. August has been more reasonable. The other evening we even needed long sleeves when we went out on my friend's boat.
And Game of Thrones!

It's a city garden, so a small garden. Not big enough for a decent size tree. I do have a Japanese mini-tree in it, thought.

Belgium excels in beer, though and there are only few countries who do.

Didn’t I read that a Belgian designer was installed as head designer at the House of Dior? I saw some of his dresses and thought them very nice.

My neighbor has a peach tree in the middle of her back yard. She doesn’t pick any of the peaches. I can stand on my balcony and watch them rotting on the ground around the tree.

Yup.
Fashion is a big thing in Belgium with Antwerp as its epicentrum. (There's a fashion museum, a fashion school where the "famous 6" come from,...)
