SIck comeback from the russians, their coach was mixing it up in the 3rd set to find the best and optimal team, and the brazilians choked in Mathieu style, they lost their balls and there was only winner after that..
Hats off the to the Zbornaja

Croats have no right to complain about their sport results. They perform brilliant every time for such a small nation. It's amazing especially in team sports.

The Russians even though 2 sets down were not that far behind, then once they took the 3rd set they took the momentum. Brazil didn't have it mentally, seems like the girls have to show them how it's done.
Too bad about the handball but at least the Iceland/Norway combo worked. Funny how both winners were much better in 2008.
Poor Olympics from Kenya there will be some questions, only King Rudisha and Kemboi performed up to standard.

Well, I think they called the game very tight. A lot of calls in basketball are not cut and dried, rather subjective. Sometimes minor contact is let go.
As for the score, that misrepresents the pace compared to an NBA game because the teams are so much better talent-wise.
For example, in Game 4 of the NBA finals, the Heat beat the Thunder 104-98 (a very similar score to today even with 8 more minutes played). The Heat took 79 shots, the Thunder 82. Today, the US took 70 shots and Spain took 67. A similar rate of shots when you take the time difference into account.
The reason the score is so high is that the three point line is closer.

It wasnt choking per se (tons of errors in crucial moments etc). Russians have something to say in that, too. They were smacking every ball there like there is no tomorrow. And after that yes they got tight a little bit but nothing in Mathieu style. And yes, good for Alekhno especially with Muserskiy.

Noone is complaining, we achieve amazing results compared to what we invest and how we treat our athlets, in all major sports there is corruption and let me call it this way ''local mafiosos'' rule them, of course rowing, sailing dont hae this problems, but football, basketball, tennis, voleyball, handball etc..; the justice system does not work and there is nothing to do about it...
This part of Europe, formes Yugoslavia, now Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, SLovenia, BiH; huge talents, sport is and always be number one occupation of the people and the media....

20 medals for the Dutch.
6-6-8.
Gold in freestyle swimming (100 and 50m, the big races), womens hockey, gymnastics, sailing (RS-X) and the womens road race in cycling.
Also finals appearances in athletics in the 100m, 200m (men) and 4*100m (men and women). Good games overall, after an otherwise disappointing sports summer.

At the moment you're 14th on the real table, but with the water polo it will go up big time and should be updated soon.

So these teams are only good in offense?
The 3-point-line argument is an old one and quite irrelevant in my view. 3-pt-% are not that much better here than in the NBA playoffs.

Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
Our handball goalkeeper Losert had a chance to equal with legendary Lavrov with 3 golden Olympic medals . Would have been amazing achievement, Balic said this was maybe his last game in Croatia's team, Lackovic and Vori also had last chance for Olympic gold. Should have been gold. So shame

Croatia in handball is like the generation of Pele (brazil) or Maradona (argentina), technique and class, with probably the best handballer ever, Ivano Balic, shame we let the french team butcher us down, it is how it is, we under performed in this match, france deserved to win it; best defense ever from them; the team Jackson Richardson had, with Anquetil and co. was way better for the handball fans; more talent
Sweden fought well, this is their maximum...
Rio 2016 should be Croatia's 3rd gold in handball; luckily for us Dinart and Omeyer are retiring...

Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
The % isn't much better because the teams jack up terrible threes because the line is closer.
And I won't speak for Spain because I haven't watched their whole tournament, but the US often has large lapses in defense because they are more interested in scoring knowing they can outscore whoever they want. Not always great effort showed, but as you saw, in the fourth today when it mattered they turned it on.
