Or perhaps accurate history books?

I am more interested in what angle British kids are taught about the 1770's. Or maybe your schools simply gloss over the fact that the greatest global superpower at the time was defeated by a bunch of farmers using American Indian war tactics?

They did, courtesy of the Europeans.

But I was more referring to guerilla tactics, setting booby traps, and generally outsmarting the British due to their superior knowledge of the land.

Actually, the Indians were often much better armed than the U.S. military. Because they used the most modern weapons they had traded for or captured and the soldiers were stuck with the lowest bidder for the weapons contacts. Arguably, the worst defeat of U.S. forces fighting Indians at the Little Bighorn was not only the huge numerical difference, but repeating Winchester's vs. single-shot Springfield's that the cavalry used. As was the case for much of the Indian Wars. Of course, it would have been a forgotten skirmish in the Civil War. It was the lack of a large-scale mobilization that allowed the Indian threat to exist as long as it did.

You guys forget the USA had France on their side - it made a big difference.

Anyways, we didn't do US independence in school, for the UK iguess it wasn't that major, we just conquered the rest of the world

France came in only after Saratoga and victory was inevitable. They did help a lot, but they weren't the decisive factor as so many people try to claim.

And you have got to be kidding yourself if you think it wasn't a major incident for the UK. The US colonies were the main concern of Parliament and the King for a decade and the loss of the colonies was to have a huge impact on all aspects of British government and it's policies.

In the mist of history this is forgotten, move on 100 years and the loss of USA can be seen as a positive. Pesky Americans could have their slave ridden states whilst we tonked Napoleon, conquered Africa, sent our convicts to Aussie, Built Atlantis and brought the world Economy. Curse the Germans for ruining it all.

The exact year we asked the IMF for a bailout and electricity was rationed to 3 days a week.

It's almost been 250 years. Isn't it about time we forgot about these men and move forward? Nothing is holding the USA back as much as the reverence for the founding fathers.
