Hey guys and gals , I am a recreational player who takes his tennis seriously, I would like to learn about how to do a Winshield Wiper forehand , as I am allways looking to add a dimension to my game, any videos or practical advice would be appreciated ! Thanks

I'm no expert on it at all, when I hit it it usually goes very short. Principally it's about hitting up and over the ball, and then peeling the racquet off to the side. The guy in FYB has it right though. Your swing path has to change.

Not really. Windshield wiper forehand is just the motion that is somewhat common when hitting a traditional modern forehand in today's game in order to generate topspin. Placement wise it doesn't matter, deep/short/angled it can all be done. However, if you notice Federer, who arguably has the best "windshield wiper technique," oftentimes when he wants to hit a short angle crosscourt and he is on the run, he will roll the racket up towards his head kind of like how Nadal hits his forehand normally. However, when he has time to step into the ball, the generally seems to prefer the windshield wiper technique when hitting cross court.

I already hit with quite a lot of topspin and to be honest I just want to learn a new forehand as I want to play county / National , althought there kinda the same thing over here

Then why do you want to hit a windshield wiper forehand.. If you want to change it up, just hit the ball flat when you get a play by going through the shot rather than around the ball. I mean that is all there is to it.

I already do hit flat quite a lot . It tends to be when I go for winners . I am probably just better off sticking to how I play now .

You hit with a lot of topspin, you hit flat a lot, so I'm not sure what the point of the thread is then, unless you are suggesting you need help improving your stroke..?

Not really it,s a pretty comfortable stroke , i just want to learn this to have a bigger margin for error on the forhand , when I need it. Like a safety shot, When I have gone for the stroke it does seem to genatrate a lot of spin , same as my kick serve , but like my kick serve they really lack power . I may answer this myself by saying I probably just need to hit it harder.

See a teaching pro, don't learn from the interwebz. I taught myself the modern technique and I was missing a lot of key factors which has inhibited my game significantly. If you learn from a teaching pro, they will tailor the lessons to your particular situation. youtube vids are way too general to apply to everyone.

I can do a sort of two handed Winshield wiper backhand now . ( that,s the only way I can describe it !) Massive spin but it really drives without going high so I have to take the ball on high to get it in .

The follow through is just a consequence of your swing path towards contact. However keeping an open stance, rather than closing off or stepping in, will allow you to free up the hips and shoulders to hit that shot, that will allow you to finish off your swing in a windscreen wiper fashion.

Unless you're playing some serious tennis its not really a shot you need, always much better to step into the shot if you can, and generate some power. The windscreen wiper style shot is aimed at extra spin and control, when time is taken away.
