Atlanta R1: R Berankis (Q) def. D Tursunov 6-3 6-2
Ricardas really played well, starting like a train to go up 4-0. There was a mini set-back but he finished the first set off playing some decent ball. Second set was tight at the beginning but Berankis seized control soon afterwards. Good, promising win. Delighted for him.

Tursunov looks really disinterested. He didn't show any emotion whatsoever, and I now question his future in the game.

Sadly, I think Dmitry is going to retire come the end of the season

Great result for Rycka. He'll gain confidence from this win and hopefully can test Nishikori in the second round. It should be a fun match between two good ballstrikers and they are pretty good friends too. Good luck in 2nd round Rycka!

he is finally showing some signs of life again...of course, Dima is not really a force to be reckoned with these days, so his true test will come against Kei in the next round. I like both guys very much, so this is is gonna be a fun battle of two Bolletieri pupils with similar games.

Re: Atlanta R1: R Berankis (Q) def. D Tursunov 6-3 6-2
Sadly, Tursunov is half the player and, what's crucial, half the athlete he used to be. Recurring injuries really took its toll on him and fighting through them non-stop is just too physically and mentally draining.
I mean, how many comebacks has he managed over the course of his career?
He broke into Top-150 in September 2001 only to be out for the first 6 months of 2002 and see his ranking plummet outside Top-600.
He came back, broke into Top-100 in September 2003 and a year later got injured again. Missed another 6 months. Fell from #60s to outside Top-150.
Came back for the 2nd time, got back well inside Top-100 promptly (in 2005) and enojoyed 3 relatively injury-free years. Established himself as a solid Top-30 players, won 5 titles, only once lost 1R at slams.
Had two surgeries in 2009 but still managed one title and spent most of the year inside Top-40. Missed another 8 months, saw his ranking drop to outside Top-500.
Came back for the 3rd time, won 7th title, broke back into Top-50 but had to take time off for treating yet another injury, out of Top-100 again.
Taking everything into consideration (including his age) I don't think he's gonna stage comeback #4.
Anyway, he's had a successful career -- 7 titles, Top-20 ranking, 8 Top-100 finishes, a couple of 4Rs at slams (at least 3R at each GS), Davis Cup. Not bad.
