Re: Phil Bester
Philip has lost in straight sets in the second round at the Chico Futures. He took three sets to win over unranked player in the first round and has now lost to Zavala, who has been playing solid enough but never ranked higher than the 600s (at age 24). Looks like Bester is off next week, at least from ITF/ATP tourney action.

I thought so at first, but I wouldn't be that worried, he played the doubles final after and lost 10-8 in the super tiebreak.

Re: Phil Bester
Good come back by Bester in today's win over Matsui, 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, at the Granby Challenger. 13 aces to 1 doublefault, got 10 break points against his opponent (converted just 1 though). Next up the winner of Frank and Ghedin.

Thought he was going to lose this one but he pulled through.

Re: Phil Bester
Wish these matches were being streamed. Would love to see the two Canuck tennis libras going head to head, despite recent form for both (how much grace can one tennis court stand!). Dancevic won their only previous match 3 and love in 2005. Bester was what 15 then?

Re: Phil Bester
Impressive, Bester defeats Dancevic 7-6, 6-4. Good win for Phillip. Bad loss for Frank but understandable given his recent injury.

Re: Phil Bester
Indeed. If Phil gets to, say, the final here, having taken out Dancevic, then does well in Vancouver (and Dancevic doesn't), Bester should get some consideration for a Rogers wc over Frank.

Re: Phil Bester
Very nice effort by Bester to reach the SFs here, with a 7-5, 6-3 win over El-Mihdawy. And now we are guaranteed a Canadian finalist as he plays his doubles partner, Pospisil.
I hope Bester can build on his good week here through the rest of the season. He's got a long way to go to get his ranking back up, but this will move him up 300 (more of course if he wins tomorrow).

Re: Phil Bester
Phillip jumped 327 spots to #567 this week after his SF run in Granby. I would like to see Phillip continue his new found form and go up the ranks. Last year, he was building some good momentum and nearly cracked the 200. I really thought he was going to crack the top 200 last season. I still think he can do it and imo, he hasn't reached his full potential yet.
On another note, Phillip made the opening round of the Lexington Challenger using his PR. He plays Terry Sandgren of USA in first round. Winnable match. I hope he continues his form from Granby into this event. I find that many Canadian players play well in Canada but stink it up out of Canada/can't maintain that form. Hopefully it won't be the case for Phillip here at this event.

Re: Phil Bester
From watching today's match streamed, Phil seemed tired today, likely from his run at Granby. He didn't have command of his forehand in particular (tired wrist, elbow, and shoulder will do that). Too bad he used up a PR, but he wouldn't've known he'd make his run when he scheduled, and with a slightly better draw, Sandgren is solid, he could have survived today and then gotten over his fatigue. He was up 5-2 in the first set too, but couldn't close - I doubt it would've mattered though.
