Re: week 1 olympic grass as fast as indoor grass?
wimbledon purposelfully uses heavy balls. Almost any other ball like the official atp penn ball will for sure play much much quicker as it is lighter.
Thats waht i think.

All of the Olympic tennis events will use the Slazenger Wimbledon Ultra Vis Hydroguard ball. Wimbledon has used Slazenger balls for more than 100 years. The Ultra Vis Hydroguard is designed to repel 70% more water than a standard tennis ball, a handy feature in London's notoriously wet climate.

Re: Olympics Information Thread?
I read somewhere that players from the same country can't be drawn in the same quarter i.e. Nadal, Verdasco, Almagro, Ferrer will all be in different quarters. This is actually bad for Nadal as he'd prefer a Spaniard on grass I'm sure than some of the other QF options out there....

Actually I expected something like that, and it will made draw even more interesting - player drawn not only by seeds, but by nationalities too.

It won't be too interesting if 4 Spaniards make the quarters! That's the only problem I have with the nationality-based draw.

I don´t think that will happen. Bigger chance is no Spaniard in QF than all four. Of course, grass should be quick for that.

But I'm sure he'll find a way to get the easiest possible draw as always.

They won't so it's not an issue. Don't really see the need for there to be a nationality element to be honest.
Basically means Nadal can draw Tsonga/Berdych/Tipsarevic in the quarters - chances of a "bad" draw (Tsonga/Berdcyh) go up to 66% from 50% if Ferrer was still an option. Similarly Novak can't get Tipsy - only Tsonga/Berdych/Ferrer - again chances of a bad draw 66% for him now rather than 50%. Murray has a bad record against Berdych and had a tough match vs Ferrer so really he'd probably prefer Tsonga or Tipsy - guess we'll have to see.
Really annoyed Del Po hasn't done something to get his ranking up and surpass Tipsy - he'll now be a tricky 4th round for someone. Though he wasn't that great on the grass at Wimby so who knows how much of a threat he'll be.
So far Fed seems like clear favourite - best of 3, likely to be indoors a lot of the time (won't stop raining in London!) - only 2 big threats - Nole/Nadal - one of which he can only meet in the final. If he gets Berdych/Tsonga then potentially the upset in the QF could happen.
I'd be happiest for the quarters to be: Fed/Berdych; Murray/Tsonga; Nole/Ferrer; Rafa/Tipsy.... Think Berdych would do better than Tsonga vs Fed as Tsonga makes too many stupid decisions. Berdych on the whole has been solid this year.

I know it won't happen, but in future Olympics if one nation dominates Tennis, then we could see 4 people of the same nationality in the quarters

I keep hearing this -- people are aware that the Olympic tennis is a one week tournament right? It starts on the Sunday/Monday I think and ends the next weekend. There's no "first week" grass. Potentially the first few days will be worse but the courts will only have best of 3 matches anyway rather than best of 5.
Not sure how worn down the grass will actually get by the SFs and Fs.... Also depends on how it's grown in the 3 weeks since Wimbledon.

I've used these balls before and all Slazenger balls tend to be bigger and heavier.
