Re: Commentary at its finest
I hate when commentators mispronounce the names of players, although I had to admit it was kind of funny when one called David Ferrer "FE-REAR."

Re: Commentary at its finest
Words and terms overused by commentators:
Sick
Filthy (Unless the player is spitting on court)
Unbelievable
Jaw-Dropping
Unreal
Outrageous
Get a good dictionary already and find some other words!

Re: Commentary at its finest
I'm quite fed up of commentators repeating something like "look what it means to him" or "you can see what that means to him" after every fist pump. It's just pointless.

Re: Commentary at its finest
I agree. That's really annoying-as are most things the commentators say. Also, when a player has not made a mistake, they should shut up and not comment on the fact. Just leave well enough alone.

I didn't hear Mac's comment re Goran but it must have meant the opposite. I saw Goran in the crowd and he looked perfect as always. Mac says the same thing against Borg jokingly because Borg still has his hair.

^Yea I think it was tongue-in-cheek. As in "look how good he (Goran) looks, the bastard." Whereas Lendl looks a tad ... weathered. Bless 'im.

Re: Commentary at its finest
Lots of gems from BBC commentary yesterday, including obvious statements such as "When you need to hold to stay in the set, you always want to win the first point." No shit sherlock.

Well, Lendl is more than 11 years older than Ivanisevic to be completely fair.

Similar to, "He'll want to hold serve here, to consolidate that break of serve." Really? He doesn't want to get broken back straight away?

Neil Harman just called Murray's forehand venomous.
|
Has anyone used the dreaded "fearhand" moniker yet? I cannot remember who used to call forehands that way, but it always annoyed. As mentioned down thread. Please leave the comedy for the clubs and just describe the match as it happens in the most direct, straightforward way possible.
I also have a pet peeve about how much time the commentators get in front of the camera.
There is nothing worse than pulling up my DVR recording of Wimbledon (here in the US) and knowing that I will have to fast forward through about 30 min of air time to start seeing some actual tennis!

Re: Commentary at its finest
Pat Cash talking about the line up of the royal box: "Roy Hodgson, better make use of this, England managers come and go fast"
David Mercer: "Steady your ?arse? (it really sounded like he said that and pulled up a little bit after saying so, those in the UK can listen at 1:44:45 onwards on the BBC Federer Youzhny stream!) start talking about the state of Australian sport"
Pat Cash "We happen to have a grand slam champion by the way, Sam Stosur"

Koenig and Goodall use the word fearhand. Of course, anyone should avoid that word when Murray plays. A bit of humor is never wrong. Why would you need someone to describe the match as it happens? Your TV lacks video?

There's a difference between chipping in with the occasional witty comment and constantly trying to be funny.
We're watching tennis, not stand up.

Re: Commentary at its finest
I love it when a player makes an awesome winner and the commentators go "Noooo!".
