Albert lost in 4 sets to Kukushkin in his first round match at the US Open with 5:7, 2:6; 6:3, 6:7

He lost a lot of points. Too bad. He'll stay top 100 for the rest of the year at least, though.

After the US Open loss to Kukushkin, Albert played in five events, his best result being a SF in the Szczecin challenger in Poland as well as avenging his US Open loss to Kukushkin in Shanghai, winning a final set tiebreaker in the first round. He finished 2011 #53 in the world, the first time he finished out of the top 50 since 2006.

Unfortunately, 2012 hasn't gone much better for Albert, as he has a 2-6 record so far on the season and has suffered with a back injury. Albert has not played since retiring from both Buenos Aires and Acapulco with back problems and withdrew from both Indian Wells and Miami with the issue. His next scheduled event is Casablanca, the week before next. European clay is where Albert always has his best results and he's defending a SF at the event, so hopefully this break from competitive matches will have helped Albert recuperate from his injuries and he will be able to play at the best of his abilities and without pain on the court.

Albert lost 3-6 4-6 to Andreev in R1 of Casablanca.

Next tournament is Monte Carlo, either qualifying or the MD. Hopefully he can make the MD directly, as I don't think he'd qualify in the current shape he's in. GL to him in Monaco!
