Most of the old GOATS all have 1 handed backhands.

Laver- 1 handed
Federer- 1 handed
Tilden- 1 handed
Rosewall- 1 handed
Sampras- 1 handed
Gonzales- 1 handed
Budge- 1 handed
Borg- 2 handed
Lendl- 1 handed
Nadal- 2 handed
Vines- 1 handed
Perry- 1 handed
Agassi- 2 handed
Connors- 2 handed
Mac- 1 handed
Cochet- 1 handed

So 12 of the top 16 players of all time have/had a 1 handed backhand. Only 25% with a 2 hander.

I like this line. Today is the only cash you have.

I am of the opinion that the man who disregards strokes, champions, and tactics of the past is making a huge mistake. I was reading Bill Tilden's book from 1925, Match Play and the Spin of the Ball, and even he said that the champion of today can learn much from the champions of yesterday. It is still relevant today.

Not really. Nole had truly great results last year, but I doubt he will do that again. I think that at this stage, he could develop a good one handed backhand for defensive shots. Roger is 30, but due to his style of game, is playing with the energy and ability of a great 25 year old. If a 5-5, 125 lb Justine Henin could develop a great one handed backhand and beat players much bigger than her, there is no reason that a 6 ft. 180 lb man can't do the same. It is all a matter of how a youngster is trained. Today young players are encouraged, perhaps forced, to play with a 2 handed backhand. Eventually, that may change and more young players will be trained to play one handed.

Ahahaha, keep your dirty thoughts in Czech, Lisa.

Didn't realise that Joker idolized Sampras, although you sometimes hear him lament the lack of volleying in today's tennis. He certainly does work his way into the net way more than Nadal (at least pre-2011 he did), but certainly more of an Agassi than a Sampras.

give it up folks. single hander is a primitive tool at best. it is getting more and more difficult to pay your mortgage with this single hander with each passing year.

Federer, at 30, is still the winning important tournaments and is ranked #3. He still has more slams than Rafa and Nole, combined. He has won all his Slams and other tournaments with a one handed backhand. Unfortunately, today's young players have been brainwashed and forced to learn the game with a two handed backhand. I still believe that a very talented young man can still win slams and be #1 with a one handed backhand.
