I just think he's funny.

Certainly I was not under the misapprehension that he represents the pinnacle of Chinese acting.

And tripwires: Jet Li starred in the following:

[Unleashed movie poster]

...and for that he cannot be forgiven. Perhaps he'll make up for it one day (no doubt with a movie that has "breast" in the title, apparently), but he hasn't yet.
His Hollywood movies are by and large crap but Once Upon a Time in China... I grew up watching it. He's my childhood hero. No one else can come close.

Have you seen Stephen Chow's pre-Shaolin Soccer movies? They're incredibly facepalm-worthy. Incredibly.

Aww. But you did suggest that leng dyed his hair. What kind of a horrific idea is that bro?

Lee is clearly the GOAT tie-breaker. Therefore...

I win.

I mean, Shaolin Soccer is funny and all but Jet Li's Once Upon a Time in China series is just
I was also frim HK but no bias toward Chow

I used "much better" but I was not referring to his acting either. You used the term magnificant persona and icon in reference to him there. and he is far from it.

I've heard of it, but haven't seen it. I'll have to seek it out.

I've seen "God of Cookery," which was pretty bizarre, sure, but still had its moments (and it definitely beats the vast majority of shitty contemporary American comedies).

I have a tendency to use hyperbole to make a point.

All the same, he seems like a nice fellow and I appreciate his family-friendly zaniness.

Let's say before him, there were many comedians in HK film industry who were more family- friendly and funnier But the films were not recognised in Western world.

Jet Li in a dog leash, for starters.

I can accept some pretty absurd action movie premises (part of the fun, really), but that's a touch too much to swallow.

Ebert is a laughingstock, imdb ratings are hit-and-miss, and 65% on Rotten Tomatoes isn't too good. (I do like your sources, though - imdb and Rotten Tomatoes are both in my bookmarks).

I don't wanna be a snot about it, though; I've only seen chunks of the movie. Perhaps it's better than I'm giving credit for.

Check out these too:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106936/ and the sequel(s)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108281/

I don't believe I've ever watched his Shaolin films though.

I've probably seen this before too at some point; Stephen Chow movies are ubiquitous around here, especially during Chinese New Year. Needless to say none of his comedies have made a lasting impression. That said, I'd probably take him over Jackie Chan.

People here call me Jackie Chan thought sometimes they mix it up and call me Bruce Lee.

Well, they both beat "Short Round."

(Who is actually Vietnamese, but "people here" aren't usually going to bother with the distinction).
