I think the opposite. He's not a very good player overall, but he has a lot of fire and that sometimes makes up for it. He's getting about as much out of his current talent level as he can. If he doesn't stop reverting to defense so often and learn to play more on top of the baseline he's never going to do a lot better than he's doing now.
Part of the reason why I think he's not a good match player is because he too often reverts to defense.
He's got a very nice serve, and a big forehand, and he's very quick, quite decent at net. He's easily top 20 material.
His problem is managing his abilities in big matches, which he's just not experienced at yet.
(Being fiery isn't the same as finding ways to beat tough opponents. Sure, he found a way to win against Rochus in 3, but that's actually the problem - should have been a straight sets wipeout.)
