Re: World Group 1st round: Russia at Austria (February 10-12, 2012)
Austria had no choice in singles. It's Melzer and Haider-Maurer or nothing. In doubles, they have more possibility with Melzer, Marach and Peya. The last two ones play together this year but it's difficult not to have Jurgen in this type of match. I think Melzer - Peya is the better duet especially in hard indoor.
For Russia, Bogomolov and Youzhny ar the best choices for singles. In doubles, they can play together or event with Kunitsyn

I agree Melzer will have to play both singles and doubles. He has played with both Marach and Peya but he and Peya played most recently together in Zagreb. They will most likely be the choice for doubles.

Tarpischev and his surprising choices again
First Kunitsyn against Melzer (Melzer has lost their two previous meetings, notably in last US Open)
Then Bogomolov against Haider-Maurer

yeah, strange decision to basically throw away 1 match on Kunitsyn, instead of going for 2-0 after 1st day with Davydenko/Youzhny against Melzer

Tarpischev up to his usual tricks.
Although, in seriousness, if he doesn't change those nominations a couple of hours before tomorrow's play, he might be looking at a 0-2 situation.
Neither Bogomolov nor Kunitsyn are reliable performers, even if they are higher-ranked and have a winning head-to-head record, respectively. Home advantage might also help the Austrians, even though they are weak big-match performers.
Dangerous.
