Jack is cruising, having won the USA F1 last week without dropping a set. He's now in the quarterfinals of USA F2 and has only lost 3 games so far!

Jack def. Michael Yani 6-1 6-1 to move on to the quarterfinal. He is doing really well the last few weeks. The win should boost his ranking.

Sock and Smyczek upset seeds to advance into Quarterfinals

Quote:
“I stayed on it, played every point hard and got the win,” said Sock who took out No. 5 Michael Yani, 6-1, 6-1 today in the second round. Sock holds a No. 380 rank teamed with Melanie Oudin to win the 2011 US Open in mixed doubles title.

“Jack’s a good player,” said Yani who is currently No. 177 and qualified for the US Open and reached the semifinals of the grass-court ATP event in Newport, Rhode Island as a qualifier last year. Yani, who was born in Singapore, played collegiately at Duke University. “He’s got a huge serve and a huge forehand. It just wasn’t my day out there.”

“I’m hitting the ball pretty well right now,” said Sock who kicked off 2012 by winning his second career USTA Pro Circuit title at the $10,000 Futures in Plantation, Florida – the year's first event. “I feel pretty good about the game right now and look forward to playing Go [Soeda].”

Sock will battle No.1 seed Go Soeda from Japan tomorrow. Soeda is the highest ranked player in the tournament at No.99.

That's not a bad result. Soeda is a top-100 player who won the tournament. Sock crushed Yani 1 and 1 in the second round.

Compare to Ryan Harrison. Jack still have a lot to work before Top 100

Jack retired in the third set. He struggled with stomache injury (virus?). Was surprised that he didn't retire in the first set. Here's hoping for a quick recovery. Good luck in San Jose.

Jack lost to Denis in three sets. One word: pathetic. Unforced errors spraying everywhere. Sloppy footwork, sloppy point constructions (or lack of), sloppy at the net, poor decision making, just about everything was bad saved the serve . It seemed that his backhand is getting worse and worse, needs a lot of work if he wants to take the next step. He can't keep running around it forever. He is still young, and in some truth, kinda raw compared to pros his age since he took the high school route.

Since it was a close match, Kudla must not have been much better.
