Yeah especially Roland Garros where there have taken all the dirt off the court and switched to that ball which plays like a golf ball. The tennis at Roland Garros this year men and women was beyond a joke b/c of what they have done to the conditions.

Re: Speed up the Courts
homogenized surfaces have created a single system of winning
baseline stye tennis
its strange watching wimbledon being played and won from the back of the court
i miss watching tiger tim charge forward and nail a perfect volley

Re: Speed up the Courts
There's no way Nadull would have won any non-clay court slams during the 90s.
Nadull is a complete fraud.

Re: Speed up the Courts
Disgusting.
ITF/ATP have already slowed down grass and eradicated carpet, soon they'll be going after Paris Bercy trying to slow it down. Next step will be to get rid of indoor tournaments in general--I'm sure Federer will fight to save Basel and Ferrero and Ferrer will try to save Valencia, but once the ATP has it's mind set on something, it's inevitable.

Re: Speed up the Courts
As long as they make RG proper clay again, they can speed up the courts. If RG continues to play like a glorified hard court, I don't see why they shouldn't slow down fast surfaces to make it fair. Madrid should be slowed down as well.

Why does the ATP want to get rid of indoor tournaments?

Sadly people who don't know anything will continue to talk about him as if he has some kind of special talent when really he is just the Makalele to federer's Zidane. Nadull is a fake clown.

Re: Speed up the Courts
All this slowing down of the courts favors Nole more than any other player. Fed and Murray prefer the faster surfaces and Nadal can't beat Nole now... so slowing down all the slams means ADV Djokovic. Now that the USO is slower, he will definetely win it for the first time. They need to slow down RG and use heavy slow balls and not the fast bullet-like babolat balls so Nole completes the career slam next year.

The USO is slower? Let's see how it plays during the actual competition, when conditions aren't muggy and damp like it is in New York currently.

Re: Speed up the Courts
I like fast tennis and slower tennis, but why do we see a trend towards all courts playing a similar speed? Because the medium or so court speed is what brings out the tennis that casual fans want to see.

That is a very good point, because after the storm the weather is gonna be pretty hot for the rest of the tournament and when the weather is hot the surface is fast, so i'd wait a bit before judging.

They might not now, but who knows what the future will bring. If you went back in time 20 years and told the players that Wimbledon would soon be a slowed down dirt patch by 2011, they would've laughed in your face.
But now....

Wimbledon has not been slowed down too much, people are overreacting. Still has least service breaks and most aces out of any GS. It's mostly racquet technology that enabled better baseline play/passing shots that killed S&V. Agassi, who played in both eras on high level said it several times in interviews.
Carpet was removed at players' insistence, Federer included.
There has been no legitimate evidence that USO has been slowed down. AO has always been slow, hasn't changed.

Re: Speed up the Courts
Did the USTA intentionally slow down the courts this year? Is this offical or just hearsay? They said just last year they had no intention of doing so.
