How does Federer travel?
Hi all,
Just wondering how tennis players travel around for tournaments etc....
1. Very top players like Federer/Nadal.... First class on commercial airlines? Or private jets? I'm a little doubtful about private jets because after all they don't earn as much as let's say Brad Pitt or Jon Bon Jovi.
2. Average players like Gasquet/Lopez/Llodra etc..... It would be hell for them to fly around the planet in economy class all year round.
Thanks

Re: How does Federer travel?
Federer flies like a superman, using only his massive ego as a power source !! No? But seriously he uses a private jet, just like all rich people.

Re: How does Federer travel?
lmao @ Gasquet, Lopez, and Llodra flying around in economy class.
Federer and Nadal probably do fly around in private jets. Federer's endorsed by NetJets, a private jet company. Don't forget the huge appearance and sponsor fees these guys get for just showing up to tournaments like Dubai and Doha which are likely enough to pay for a private jet trip 5 times over.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these tournaments pay for the transportation of the top guys.

Private Jet.
A long while ago Nadal had just beaten Fed in a tourney, but Nadal had no way of getting to the next tournament on time so Fed gave him a lift on his jet. True story… or is it.

You are so far off the mark.
According to Forbes, last year Roger Federer made US$47 millions (ranked fourth among sports stars after Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, and Le Bron James), while Brad Pitt made "only" US$ 20 millions and Bon Jovi (as the whole group, plus agents etc) made US$ 125 millions, and that means Jon Bon Jovi is most likely to have made well under US$47 millions that Federer made last year.
So of course Federer travels with private jet, keep in mind also that he travels with his entourage (wife, children, trainers, masseur, parents, etc), which makes more sense and is actually cheaper in the long run if he buys a private jet rather than flying first class or renting, except if he gets it for free, and as mentioned above, he is sponsored by Net Jets.
Even Maria Sharapova made US$ 24 millions, mostly from product endorsements (Nike,Cole Haan, etc) and Nadal made US$ 31 millions.
Tiger Woods have made US$ 1 Billion in his career, and you can bet all your money most of it is not from winning prizes.
These days the most elite and marketable sports stars are making most of their money from products endorsements.

You can be sure also that Fededer will keep earning as much every year even after he retires as he will get so much offers for appearances, exhibitions, speaking engagements, book deals, product endorsements.

Re: How does Federer travel?
If he didn't get a free jet from those NETJETS ads and for the endorsement his manager/agent is an ass.

Re: How does Federer travel?
He doesn't fly in a private jet overseas, lets not get carried away! He probably does in Europe, other than that, I'm sure he just travels first class.

According to some sources he occationaly hitchhikes.
Mirka in sexy tight skirt is used for a bait, while Federer and coach are hidden in the bushes.

Re: How does Federer travel?
Nadal once gave Ivanovic a 'lift' from Indian Wells to Miami on a private jet, I think it was rented though.

This does not make sense at all.
Have you ever flown first class overseas (real first class, not american domestic "first class)?. It costs a minimum US$10,000 between europe and US, and cost more to Asia. What with the twins, wife, trainers, masseur, parents, other hangers on that could total 20 persons. Cost wise, it is actually cheaper to fly in private jets, especially when it's free because NetJets provide for Roger!
it has been on records in articles and news reports also that Federer flies in private jets to Master series tournaments.
