Re: Davis Cup
According to Rad Can, Raonic is out and likely Polansky will replace him.

Re: Davis Cup
Polansky is a bum. That guy has no confidence whatsoever.
If I were coach, I'd put in Vasek and Bester. Ecuador won't have a good team and their best player won't be playing anyways.

Raonic is out for sure and PP will for sure be taking he place. Not surprised as I thought it was crazy he was going to play in Ecuador.
Canada should still be okay to get through this rubber.

sokk, Peter doesn't need to win two rubbers for us to win. He doesn't even need to win one. Maybe he won't even play.
And let's look on the bright side - maybe he will win a match and that will help his confidence for the coming months.

He will probably not play, but say he does? Check his record against players with the rankings of his two opponents.

Re: Davis Cup
We have to consider the doubles point more or less in the bag with Nestor on board. Their number 2 Endara would have to play the tennis of his life to win both his matches. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt though and assume he takes one match.
That would mean we need to beat their number one guy once. It depends on many factors, but Peter would be more than capable of doing so. Davis Cup has a weird way of bringing out the best in struggling players - look at what Chardy did recently for France.

Re: Davis Cup
honestly canada should still win the tie, i dont see any players they really need to worry about
if this was brazil or uraguay canada was playing then i'd say they were screweds but canada was gifted a very nice draw here

Re: Davis Cup
Hmm, unfortunate news Still think we should take the tie, but obviously it's a lot more uncertain now. I am glad to see the tie is actually at sea level; I was under the impression it was at altitude, which would have been even tougher, I think.
Is Lapentti actually playing? If so, I think it could be difficult, but if it's Campozano and Endara as singles players we should be able to win

Re: Davis Cup
Ok, my predictions...
1st Rubber
Polansky (1) vs. Campozano (1) 6-4, 6-4, 6-3
2nd Rubber
Pospisil (2) vs. Endara (2) 6-3, 6-4, 6-3
Doubles Rubber
Nestor/Pospisil vs Campozano/Endara 6-2, 7-5, 6-4
4th Rubber
Bester(3) vs. Campozano (1) 4-6, 5-7
5th Rubber
Pospisil (1) vs. Endara (2) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3
That's how I would schedule it If I were Laurendeau. Honestly, I have more confidence with Pospisil in singles more so than Polansky. Polansky hasn't been playing great as of late and has literally no confidence in himself. Pospisil has been on fire as of late and is a player on the upswing, so I gotta play the hotter player.
All in all, Our boys can take this one eazy. I say we win 4-1 or 3-2 if Polansky stinks it up.

Re: Davis Cup
Canada doesn't get to decide the order. the first 2 rubbers are 1 vs. 2 matches which get randomly drawn, it's 50/50 who's #1 player plays first, ours or theirs. plus, you have Pospisil vs. Endara listed twice. If Pospisil plays Endara in his first rubber he'll be scheduled against Campozano on Sunday, if they then play Bester instead of Peter, Bester will play Endara

Re: Davis Cup
It is sure G. Lapentti won't play? in DC website it says Ecuador is going with Giovanni, Endara, Campozano and Quiroz. I think without Lapentti Canada would be the favourite, but if the younger of Lapentti's brothers plays it could be a very tied series

Re: Davis Cup
Ecuadorian newspapers are saying Lapentti is out by injury, so it seems 100% sure he won't play against Canada. What I don't know is why he's in Pozoblanco draw, doesn't make sense he says no to DC by an injury and then plays a Challenger the same week, maybe he'll withdraw. It's curious, but anyway this is not the thread to talk about that
