Default Question about Murray's lack of success on clay

Does anyone know why he isn't too good (relatively) on clay? I realize a QF at RO isn't too bad. But he is so quick/defensive, I don't understand why he isn't one of the best claycourters.

- bad footwork on clay
- not enough topspin on his shots
- lack of power on his forehand

Murray is essentially a hard-court player, if he wants success on clay he must make a lot of adjustments on his game

The man above summed it up. Doesn't move that well on clay, which means his defensive skills aren't as good as on other surfaces. The forehand on clay, not up to scratch against better players on the surface.

I'm with you on this one. Andy doesn't seem to possess the outright strength necessary to hit the ball necessarily hard on clay.

A court with a bit of pace seems to suit him a lot better so he can turn his opponents shots into winners using the pace already in the ball.

He's still not a bad clay courter though - but he's probably only top 10 to 25 on clay rather than top- 4 like on everything else - IMO
