This is a great challenge. To achieve this honour he would have to...

1) Clean up the non GS events by winning...
Dubai, IW, Miami, 1 Clay Masters, Halle, Motreal, Cincy, Shanghai,Stockholm, Basel, Paris & London...according to some tools this is a reasonable/realistic expectation

2) Reach the finals of the remaining slams...

3) Hope that

Murray wins AO,

Nadal loses at least one Clay Masters title and loses in the 1st round @ both Wimbledon where Roddick wins and USO where Djoko wins.

Djoko only wins 3 micky mouse events aside from the USO.

Nadal only wins RG and 2 Masters events and has an awful season.

I believe that should be enough to secure the coverted pushniaki number 1 spot

Let's be positive folks

there is a little difference = Federer is still holding the Master Cup. Wozniacki has nothing to her name except minor titles.

Wrong.

I've heard it said that has great mammaries and Federer does not

Default FedererNIACKI???? Ranking System Issue???

Yesterday someone opened a thread about Djokovic being the best number 3 player in the world ever.

But seriously how come that Federer is still ranked ahead of Novak??

Dojkovic has 3 better slam performances, the other one is tied. W>SF, QF=QF, SF>QF, F>SF.

Ok Federer won the Masters, but the fact that Federer does not even have a grand slam final to his name in the last 365 days is really worrysome (same as the womens game).

Imagine Nadal out of the picture and Federer being ranked number one today with those results ahead of Novak

Would today´s ranking system need a revision?

Because there's more to the rankings than slams. Don't worry though, at this rate Djokovic will be ahead of Roger within a month. His confidence is just sky-high at the moment.

E.g. Federer won Masters, Djokovic didn't. Federer won WTF.
1 MS Win and 3 MS final + WTF >>>>> maximum SF in Masters.

Yeah, his 16 slams count for nothing

Yeah you have a point, but I mean at least he has Grand Slams in the bag

Default Re: FedererNIACKI???? Ranking System Issue???

the WTF counts many points : the difference between Fed winning all of his matches in WTF and Djokovic winning two matches in semifinal is 1100 points.

The difference between a slam winner and a slam semifinalist is 1280 points.

It may shock some but it has been this way for a long time, even in 2008 (and the rankings in 2009) when Djoko won the WTF. And well, you have to beat the best players to win the WTF (it was more made by Fed in 2010 than by Djoko in 2008)

Besides, Djokovic made something quite extraordinary last year : he didn't even reach one Masters Series final. He hadn't even reached a slam final before the US Open (a slam semifinal before Wimbledon).

That's been Djokovic's problem last year : his failure in Masters 1000 tournaments.

He compensated that with a great result in ATP500 tournaments : winning Beijing, Dubai, semifinal in Monte-Carlo (all tournaments which Fed did not play), final in Basel ... and the Davis Cup.

Actually not everybody realizes that in the past Djokovic would have had ... zero point for his Davis cup run.

Fortunately he got them and that's very well deserved.

But anyway I've seen it very often on this website : everything is supposed to be summarised by slams only. If you consider that, there was a moment in the middle of last year when Söderling would have been number 3 in the world.

But it's not how the rankings work : in 2007-2008 Djokovic was very regular in Masters Series tournaments : he has lost that ability in last 2 years. I know that some here may say it's not important, but I think it is indeed. I would like him to show that he's now as regular as he was in 2007-2008 even in slams by the way he was so regular in 2007-2008

I think if people only listened to MTF, the ranking system would be very simple : you only take the slams and that's all, the one who won more slams is number 1 then second is the one who won at least one

Already a slam winner has 2000 points comparing to the finalist 1200 : nearly double. I think it's not bad (and more than in the past)
