Default New Zealand Tennis

Marina Erakovic, a NZ tennis hope at only 16 years old has wildcard entry to the ASB classic in Auckland, and will play PELLETIER, Marie-Eve (CAN) in the first round singles.

She will also play in the main draw doubles, making it in as Lucky Losers. She is playing with South African partner Chanelle Scheepers. They will play Granville/Ashley in the first round.

Erakovic is ranked in the top 10 in junior doubles, and has only had limited play at the top level in Women's Tennis. Hopefully she can win some matches and improve her rankings. She has been successful in Fed Cup play and a couple of low level challengers in Wellington New Zealand in her only experiences of international senior tennis.

In the mens draw: Mark Nielsen (NZ's highest ranked player) and youngster GD Jones have earned main draw wild cards. For more about the NZ player wildcard tournament: http://muntmaru.blogspot.com/2004/12...land-open.html

Default Re: New Zealand Tennis

Erakovic won her first round singles:Erakovic defeats Pelletier 4-6 7-5 6-3
but was dumped out of the doubles 7-5 6-0. Hopefully she just flagged the second set to save herself for the singles (wishful perhaps, since she is a top rated doubles player in the juniors).

She will play Husarova in the second round, a qualifier who ominously caned the number 6 seed (and world number 47)Kristina Brandi 6-1 6-2. Husarova has been as high as 31 in the world at singles and 5 in doubles, but is currently well down the rankings at 205 in singles, but remains an impressive 13 in doubles.
